Training Day: It's the shizz!

Watched this for the first time last night, dog. Daaaaam, Denzel makes a good BAD muthafucka! Peace, out. :)

I enjoyed this one, but the actors made it. Weaker actors would have revealed just how messy the rest of it was. I’m glad Hawke also got some recognition for his work in that film (supporting actor nomination).

Its a cool movie and I liked it… but I can’t understand how both Denzel and Ethan got nominated for Oscars.

Not to mention the fact that Denzel won… ah well.

I thought the movie was highly overrated, and borderline idiotic. Ethan Hawkes character would have to be an idiot to continue with the abuse for as long as he does in the movie.

After the scene where Denzel blows away the drug dealer guy, obviously murder, Hawke’s character continues on with Denzel, obviously for the sake of the plot. I found this to be too much of a stretch for my tastes. I think the movie would’ve been much better had Denzel’s character flaws been much more subtle than they were.

Wha??? Are you saying you don’t appreciate the NEON FLASHING SIGNS of Hollywood? Heathen!.. you’re practically Unamerican. Deportation is next for you.

There’s a psychological phenomenon that explains it called “the-foot-in-the-door-phenomenon”.

I believe it happens in real life. But then again, I also believe some of those people who say they didn’t know downloading music was illegal.

I approached this movie not as an Oscar candidate or shining example of what “feelm” should be but rather entertainment. I was entertained. Within the narrow confines I have set forth, “Training Day” was a success.
And King Kong ain’t got nuffin’ on brother Denzel!

You could almost see in Denzels eyes at the Oscar ceremony interviews after the show, that he knew he only got the nod because his skin has more meletonin. I swear I could see him saying “I should have gotten this piece of tin for MalcomX you fucking white trash idiots!” with his eyes.

His Malcom was definately Oscar worthy, getting it for portraying a stereotypical corrupt black cop was almost insulting.

I believe his Training Day Oscar was very much a make up for the time he lost to Pacino. I felt bad for Russell Crowe, but he should not have won for Gladiator. He got the easy Oscar in 2001, so much like Pacino in 1992.

Once you got past the bathtub scene, Training Day was pretty weak. What a bad ending.

In hindisght, here’s the list of actors in contention for the 1992 Best Male Actor Oscar:

Robert Downey Jr. - Chaplin
Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven
Al Pacino - Scent of a Woman
Stephen Rea - The Crying Game
Denzel Washington - Malcom X

I saw all those movies that year. My order would have been, Denzel - Clint - Downey Jr. - Rea - Pacino.

I think Rea’s performance was fantastic in that film, playing the, er, straight guy. I’d rank 'em like this: Rea/Denzel (definitely his best performance)…with none of Eastwood/Pacino or DowneyJr. even being nominated, if the awards had anything to do with best acting in a single movie.
