If it’s some Facebook version of Age of Wonders, however, I will be…annoyed…
Announcing…Age of Wonders Online! ;)
I honestly loved the first Age of Wonders as well. Exploring dungeons was definitely my most missed feature in its sequel.
I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. If it is a A.O.W. game, and it’s Kickstartered, will be pledging at double entry level.
Age of Wonders Online! Your new F2P MOBA game! :D :D
lmao, the chaos that would ensue. :)
I’m still playing it. I’m in a PBEM now.
And their community is still supporting it. Just last month came the release of the AoW1 Community Content Pack: mods, campaigns, maps that have accumulated over the years.
And for all three AoWs, there’s the ‘Age of Wonders Wrapper’: a fan-created program that more fully automates the PBEM process of all three Age of Wonders games. I’m using it now on AoW1 and it works mostly flawlessly. The creator has even made videos showing how to install/use it.
The thread announcing it.
The download.
The videos (warning: videos are on Facebook).
If anyone is up for a PBEM game of AoW1 (and committed to sticking it out – it can last months) lemme know by PM.
I’m guessing a freemium city builder for iOS, with Final Fantasy: All the Bravest style IAP.
OK, that’s pretty awesome. My one biggest criticism of the first Age of Wonders was the lack of maps. I think me and my friends played in 2001 or so, and at that point, the community hadn’t released many user-maps for it. Basically if we wanted to play on a big map, I think the full game had one, maybe two maps of that size that shipped with the game, and then we found (at that time) maybe 2 more maps that were made by the community, and I remember one of them being really terrible.
We would have played that game for many more months if only we’d just had more big maps to play on. Our biggest wish from Age of Wonders 2 was that the game have more big maps, but they changed the mechanics of the gameplay so much, none of us could get into the sequel. And I honestly didn’t even know about Shadow Wars except through Quartertothree years later. It must have been a stealth release at the time.
Shadow Magic is one of my favorite turn-based strategy games (alongside the original AoW) - I recall it being a big step up from the base AoWII. Give it a try once you’re done telling me how right I was about Path of Exile. :-)
I think I’ve asked this before, but if I’ve played AoW but not AoW2 or Shadow Magic, am I missing anything by jumping straight to SM?
No. 45
I would love to see an AoW, especially if you had a little more involvement when it comes to you mage creation.
They’re up to like 975+ likes. I wish they’d just announce it already.
Definitely doesn’t bode well for a Kickstarter if that’s what’s to be revealed.
Not necessarily, IMO. There’s not exactly a lot of visibility on this Facebook post. A kickstarter on the other hand is going to hit the media outlets and get a lot more exposure.
Yeah, Kickstarter is a lot different than Facebook, especially considering how many gamers flat out refuse to use Facebook. Even the ones that are on Facebook probably aren’t following Triumph Studios necessarily, though I wish they were, but a LOT of folks will come out looking at a Triumph Stuios Kickstarter project. Especially if RPS and the like report on it.
Paradox did the whole Facebook “Like” thing as well for CK2 (hence the name of the thread here “Are you fan enough for Crusader Kings 2?”). They never got the amount of Likes they needed but the game went on to be extremely successful for them. I don’t think Facebook can really be tied to the chances of success for a title. I really wish developers would stop doing it, I find it extremely annoying.
I hate to out myself, but I don’t use facebook at all. What does a company gain by having people Like their…uh…page? post? picture?
Once someone “likes” a page, their wall (their personal page) recieves the entries done by the company page. Because the entries of your wall also can be reflected, liked, shared with your friends, it’s free publicity.
So, 1000 now done.
