The solution is to stop governing an election and start governing our country. I don’t want a politician to just tell me they’re the answer to all my problems, I want them to show me. And by giving Trump power for the next two years, they’re effectively telling me they don’t want any part of solving our problems, they just want my vote.
How do we stop Trump?
Step one, hold him accountable for his crimes. Allow us to see them addressed in public, in an official capacity, and allow us to see where the the process is working and where it falls apart. Because right now republicans aren’t to blame for our situation, Democrats are. Democrats and fear. We are so fucking terrified of bad stuff happening in 2020 that we won’t allow ourselves to do the right thing. And how are we rewarded for this bit of enduring patience while waiting for 2020 to arrive? Why, we’ll just keep on experiencing that bad stuff right now.
We’ve got a core fear that Republicans will curb-stomp any attempt to move a process forward. Fine, if they do, they do. Let them SHOW the world their corruption on this specific matter, in a public forum, instead of just allowing Democrats to keep TELLING us that it exists. To me, there’s a world of difference in what I’m supposed to believe is true and what is shown to be true.
avoid constitutional crisis?
I don’t think a constitutional crisis in this context is something we need to fear or avoid. If anything, I welcome the chance to see the ongoing ambiguities and obscurities cemented and nailed down. Go through the painful motion of figuring out true solutions to crises like these, because it’s honestly best for health of our country going forward. And I’m not just talking about fifty years from now when the next thoroughly corrupt president stirs things up again, but right now. I believe people need to actually see the mechanisms of our constitution and laws put into motion, see the rough edges smoothed out, and observe as the process plays out and what comes of it, because I believe if we stop being so damned afraid of crises like these then maybe we’ll be better able to embrace and address them as a nation when they do occur.
I need politicians to stop telling me what I need to be afraid of. And I think we all need that.
restrict the power of the presidency, etc?
I guess that’s one option, but to what degree I can’t say. What I demand is that our elected officials actually give us the opportunity to find out.
