I assume Pelosi is focused on the 2020 elections, especially what needs to be done to keep control in the House. I also assume she knows a fuckload more than I do about how impeachment proceedings would likely impact those elections.

That doesn’t mean she’s right. But I certainly don’t know enough to second-guess her on political strategies.

The problem is that when you only think about and act on ‘what wins you elections’ people tend to notice. And that tends to cause dissatisfaction.

If people think the Dems are more concerned with elections than the good of the country, don’t you think that really hurts them in 2020?

Looks like she has decided to cut the baby in half. There won’t be a vote (yet) to authorize an impeachment investigation, because the vote isn’t necessary and the Judiciary Committee is already engaged in an impeachment investigation.

Isn’t getting rid of Trump for the good of the country?

Yes, I agree with you here.

But I also wonder, what else can she focus on? There’s zero chance that impeachment proceedings end up with Trump leaving office. The trial in the Senate would focus on how Mueller and Strozk are Clintonsta traitors who hate America. And it’s not like she can get any significant legislation passed while we control only one sliver of the government.

To me, everything depends on how we do in 2020. I’m willing to trust she knows more about the politics side of this than I do.

Hint: don’t pay so much attention to what Nancy Pelosi says.

Watch the actions.

They’re moving to an impeachment inquiry and have started one. She’s not going to give anyone the soundbite.

As I understand it, that is the necessary legal basis to get the Grand Jury evidence from Mueller’s team. It’s sealed, unless Congress requests it as part of an ongoing judicial proceeding. An impeachment inquiry tics that box.

I don’t think that means they’re going forward with anything now. Last I heard, there were about 100 total members on the record favoring impeachment. That’s not nearly enough, even if you ignore what McConnell would do to this in the Senate.

Unfortunately, Nadler and the other members of the committee don’t agree. They think they are going forward with an impeachment investigation. I mean, they put that in writing in a court filing.

They’ve started an inquiry, I believe for the reasons I stated above. I don’t think that means we’re headed toward actual proceedings on the House floor.

I could be wrong, of course – predicting this stuff is beyond the mightiest of eight-balls.

We may not be headed for a vote, but these are proceedings.

It is, but people are goldfish. And if they are more concerned with winning the next election than getting rid of Trump as they got elected for in the last election?

I definitely think that there has been a failure to really hammer why Trump is so bad daily, and why he and his enablers need to be removed. And, yes, that is also a lot of the fault of corporate media.

I have noticed that lately, the media is better at calling out his racism and stupidity than in the beginning. Too little, too late.

I’d argue the oppsosite. I’ve seen it hammered so often, and often in such overly stated, apocalyptic terms that the daily hammering of Trump being so bad has essentially lost meaning and context.

Maybe the outcome of the elections is the greater good, even more than making a stand on principal. I really don’t know for sure. If for some reason pursuing impeachment turns off a lot of the general public, enabling Trump to win the election - how good would that be? We can hope that Trump will get his once out of office. There are certainly many motivated to do so.

I can’t fathom how the Republicans can justify the Clinton impeachment and not support impeachment of Trump. At the time I was a Republican and didn’t really think Clinton’s behavior was impeachment worthy. Trump though? It seems pretty clear to me. The Republican party is such a shit show for so many reasons I can’t imagine what could cause me to ever vote republican again. The last time was the first GW Bush election.

Anyways, I don’t know the best course of action regarding how to handle Trump. Plausible arguments can be made for proceeding with impeachment and not.

Democrats will all vote to impeach if a vote comes up. A lot of them are afraid to bring impeachment proceedings because they think it will make trump stronger if they don’t handle the impeachment correctly. ie. the press makes them out to be whiny losers. Democrats have got to learn to control the narrative in the general media.

(Note: Nancy Pelosi knows and has no issue with it. Again, pay attention to the actions, not the words.)

House is on 6 wk recess. I’d imagine that congress critters are going to hear exactly what’s what at those townhall meeting during that period. Abigail Spanberger, one of those moderate dems elected last year has 3 scheduled in the next 7 days.

Because they’re traitors who are more concerned with which right-wing think tank is going to give them a sinecure when they leave office than the future of the country and the planet?

Yeah, I think that’s it.

She’s a moderate Democrat from a district that was represented by David Brat and Eric Cantor and is about as purple a district as there is.

I mean…maybe, but it’s just as likely her own polling within her district shows her a different calculus than what she’d hear at a town hall.

More likely to move are reticent Democrats from far bluer districts.

Cowards, all of them. This incessant triangulation about what “purple districts” want, as if that’s some kind of exact science, is exactly what is so god damned infuriating to everyone.

EVERYONE.

I refuse to believe that the majority of people are just so DISILLUSIONED and NUMBED by the HURR DURR MEDIA that they think, “Well, garsh, Mickey! We can’t just go impeach-ifying the Pressy-dunt willy-nilly now!”

You know what the dipshit assholes in the (hurr) Tea Party did? They got mad and stood up for (lol) principles that their constituents (ugh) got engaged with.

GET FUCKING MAD.

IT IS TIME TO GET FUCKING MAD.

STOP BEING SUCH ENORMOUS COWARDS.

I AM RUNNING OUT OF ALL-CAPS YOU GUYS, HELP ME OUT.
