“It’s easier to tear things* down than build them up.”

(* Social Security, clean air, international alliances to preserve realative world peace, a habitable planet, etc.)

My first reaction was, “Good thing that plan is a secret!” Man, I have zero hope at all about anything.

:(

Yeah, I feel like making zero attempt at all to reshape the narrative is not exactly a genius move. Everything is fear based. “What if we tried to take control of the narrative and Trump managed to flip it on us? Better to say nothing and just let Trump and the media put their spin on things.”

But it’s understandable if you’re looking at it with a long view.

Clinton comes to power? The Soviet Union collapses, neo-liberalism wins the day, the best time for humanity ever? Republicans: sex! scandal! murder! corruption! Voters: Throw the bums out!

Obama comes to power, the dawn of a new America, the end of the old? Republicans: Tea Party! Benghazi! Obama is the greatest racist in history! Obama is a Muslim terrorist! Voters: You’re right, throw the bums out!

Trump comes to power. Democrats: he lies, he cheats, he steals, he’s gross, incompetent, sexist, racist, probably working with foreign powers. Voters: We don’t care lol! ALL TAXES ARE THEFT! BURN THE WORLD TO STOP ABORTION!

Time and again Democrats have found themselves burned by the increasingly right-wing dominated media. Time and again voters have shown themselves to be utterly incapable of even tracking cause and effect over more than a single voting cycle. I think Pelosi et al are playing the asymmetric hand they’ve been dealt.

That said, at a certain point unconventional solutions are not just an option but the only option when the game becomes so asymmetrical that there’s no way to win no matter how you play. But you’re not going to be following voter sentiment in that domain of solutions - you’re going to be ignoring it or leading it.

Good week for trump.

The Democrats are thinking they are winning a game of 4D chess against an opposition who are actually a bunch of monkeys playing a shit flinging competition.

Why were they paying her to lie flagrantly for Trump when she’s willing to do it pro bono?

Hey, don’t disparage Governor Sanders like that!

I love how “flatly denied” becomes “all but admits” in Huckaspeak.

A key moderate from a very purple district. Dominos falling, one by one…

Good for her. This is not about winning an impeachment vote but upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.

I’ve got a question. My republican friend stated that the FBI investigation was initiated for bad reasons, and I know bits and pieces of how it started, but not the entire story.

So he said it was due to information in the Steele Dossier, which was funded by the Clinton campaign and included information supplied by foreign actors. What are the indisputable facts about how the investigated originated, did the Steele Dossier play a role, etc?

No, the Steele dossier isn’t was started the investigation. It was being notified by Australia about what Papadapolous was up to (and probably other things that were cropping up as well).

This seems like a good summary:

Thanks!

So the dossier was just another data point along with all the other things they were seeing. If I’m reading it right, the investigation opened in late July, and outside of Ohr it doesn’t appear anyone at the FBI knew of Steele’s report prior to late November or December. The timeline says McCain gave Comey the report in December.

So there were numerous valid reasons for the FBI to be investigating. For all they knew Trump himself was unaware of what was potentially happening to his campaign.

My rep is on board:

Pretty sure this is the exact story that Hannity & friends keep regurgitating constantly on Fox.

No doubt. I just didn’t have anything solid to reply with.
