From a purely logical perspective, Trump should be impeached on the merits presented in Mueller’s report.

But, apparently, people are too dumb to handle that.

And for that reason, Trigger’s correct. The Ukraine thing is just way easier for folks to understand.

That doesn’t sound like “No.”

Um, your quoted text proves my point. They were thinking about it. But they didn’t go all in with collusion Conspiracy to Defraud the United States of America.

It’s a no from a leader choosing to lead from the rear.

I disagree. Who here can give exact details of the ins and outs of the Watergate investigation? People won’t care what goes in in the House investigation; they’ll care about how it’s reported, and they’ll develop a “sense” about whether crimes were committed or not. Spoiler: they were. Also, too, crimes were committed. When did we become a country where even in principle political considerations take precedence over application of the law.

Yep. If impeachment was strictly a test of evidence and casework, it’s pretty open and shut.

But impeachment is inherently political. And in most cases, impeachment happens to lame ducks. This will be an impeachment to a sitting first-term president who will stand for election in 12 months. That’s a HUGE lift for the Democrats to be trying to make. Like, possibly an impossible one, frankly.

I can.

So could the public:

  1. Saturday night massacre
  2. The president on tape – as a sitting president and not a candidate – arranging hush money for the Watergate burglars, a tape turned over by Supreme Court order 1 week before resignation.

This is a pretty big domino to fall right here, regardless of what you think of Grampy Joe as a candidate:

It, uh, sounds like it’s probably a “we’re on that track now.”

I do think they’ll still wait until that Thursday deadline on call tape/transcript turnover. But I think the writing’s on the wall if that turnover doesn’t happen. And I think that turning it over may only delay things even so, if the call is as described.

I don’t doubt that you can. I could give a rough sketch too, though I wasn’t alive at the time. But the public? You really think that a significant percentage of people under 50 even know that the Watergate is a DC hotel?

We have a sample size of 4 (cases where formal impeachment investigations commenced) in the last 160 years. And zero of them were lame ducks. There is no “in most cases.”

It just seems a bit odd to me that for months and months we’ve all been saying what’s in the Mueller report is impeachable but suddenly if something sexier comes along we’re like “never mind!”

But hey, the emoluments shit is clearly impeachable too and nobody’s even talking about that. Yay politics, I guess.

Haha, nice.

Pretty much. For most people, the Mueller report was a wet fart.

Because the media is shit, and can’t break from their bothsiderism long enough to report actual fucking news

Sadly, I think it’s just a gimmick to try and save his campaign, which I feel is on a downward trajectory and set to lose to Warren.

And I feel that’s how it will be reported, and thus it will be used to create the perspective that the whole impeachment process is just politically motivated.

Prove me wrong, kids!

No argument there from me. The Mueller report clearly detailed impeachable offenses, but because Meuller was prevented from outright simply saying “Trump is a crook and must be impeached” we got 24/7 asshole Olympics.

Another big domino falls.

Some of us haven’t.

I think they’re gonna do it.
See you on the other side, chaps!
