After being convicted?

But before sentencing, apparently yes? From WaPo:

Prosecutors argued that Stone, who had been out on bond before and during his trial, should be jailed immediately as he waits to be sentenced.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Kravis said Stone has “shown an unwillingness or inability to abide by the conditions of release the has set for him,” asserting that the now-convicted political operative had violated a gag order in the case as recently as Thursday night when he sent a message to InfoWars radio host Alex Jones.

Defense attorney Bruce Rogow acknowledged that Jones claimed to have received a note from Stone, but said it was unconfirmed. He said Stone “understands the gravity of the court’s instructions” and would comply with them.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ultimately allowed Stone to remain free on bond, but kept her gag order in place.

Is it possible to collapse from schadenfreude?

Is it common for convicts with likely prison sentences to be bailed before sentencing? Especially ones that have shown such contempt for the legal system?

Looks like we need a new documentary: “Get Me The Head Of Roger Stone”.

It seems really bizarre that this guy is out on bond when he’s such an obvious flight risk.

Stone clearly didn’t violate his bail agreement by communicating with the press. He was communicating with Alex Jones…

“Sent a message to Alex Jones” is just his euphemism for going number 2.

Hope Stone really enjoys prison. His entire life has been spent headed to that gate.

If you’re rich and white and didn’t murder someone, yes.

He worked really hard at getting there with as long as sentence as he could, I’ll give him that.

Brilliant. Think I’m gonna start using that.

Evergreen.

He can paint some stripes on that baby, and he’s good to go.

Good thread here, by someone very familiar with Stone.

My google-fu fails me, what is the Ukrainian public view on this? I wonder how they see foreign perception of themselves, and what they think of the politicians involved and how they handled it and no doubt its spawned memes and jokes. No doubt there’s a deep seated stoic acceptance of corruption they are used to, but its never been like this.

I think you need to start with the Ukrainians overthrowing Yanukovic (Manafort’s meal ticket and Putin’s puppet).

More a feel for how they see the Trump thing. I do work around Crimea sanctions so well aware of recent events. Western interviews with Ukrainian politicians arent much help.

I think they wish they hadn’t trusted us and gave up those nukes. I think they would rather deal with a sane US Government, but have no choice but to kiss (er, admire) Trump’s ass.
