Trump/Russia 2016 election investigation (continued, now with Ukraine!)

November 2020 has always been the only solution. That’s 20 months away. This report will be ancient history by then, obscured by all the shitty things he will do between now and then.

So this doesn’t worry me much. I already know I’ll do everything I can in that election. I’ll vote, I’ll try to get others to vote, I’ll donate as much as I comfortably can. I know I’m not alone in this :)

I’m wondering if the media goes heavily into the “Trump cleared!” narrative just so it can be more dramatic when they later say “New revelations undermine `Trump cleared!’ narrative”.

What’s weird is seeing idiots like Greenwald and Tracey crow that the Mueller report confirms their original view that there was no Russian interference in the election.

Which isn’t true. Just based off the charging documents, indictments, and Barr’s own letter, it’s clear the Russians went to great lengths to interfere in the US election.

Also, fuck the New York Times.

I haven’t actually read any of their Mueller coverage but I figure my longstanding position on the publication still remains true.

I mean… they indicted like 2 dozen individuals and organizations specifically related to the Russians interfering. They actually committed crimes related to Russia interfering.

For Trump himself, Mueller was unable to conclusively prove that Trump committed criminal conspiracy. And this doesn’t mean that there’s no evidence even of that kind of criminal conspiracy. Just that Mueller didn’t feel like he could prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Unless you see the whole report, you have no idea what kind of evidence of criminal conspiracy he uncovered.

This is part of why it’s important to see the actual report, not just a summary by Barr.

But even beyond all of that, committing a felony is not the standard for what makes you unfit to be president. Colluding with a hostile state like Russia, even if not rising to the level of criminal conspiracy, is still BAD. There was a time when everyone on both sides of the political aisle would have recognized something so obvious.

There was a time when the Republicans especially would have recognized it, especially when the hostile state in question is Russia. It’s incredibly how far Republicans have fallen in just the past couple decades (not that I was a fan of a lot of their stuff before that, but you know what I mean).

There was a time when the Trump University stuff alone, the stiffed contractors alone, or the numerous bankrupticies alone, would’ve barred someone from being elected to any consequential office. There is a large segment of the public that clearly has no interest in holding their President to any ethical standard at all.

Or cheating on your wife with a porn star. That would have ended the Obama Presidency a hundred times over, especially with a white porn star.

It would have ended anyone’s presidency. For DJT, the defense appears to be “everybody knows he’s a scumbag!!”.

Hooray for accurate headlines:

A little light treason is no big deal. Miscegenation is serious!

I mean it’s great and all but what % of the voters are going to know what exoneration means? If you don’t, it looks like Trump is cleared 100% from the headline. No collusion, no exoneration - totally innocent!

Yeah. They are that stupid. Especially our resident idiot.

Not a resident. A stale, wafting fart.

Sadly, you’re probably right. “No Exoneration? That probably means no involvement, right? Eh, too busy to look it up.”

Greg Sargent with an op-ed that will probably get drowned out by the media’s delight that they can now return to their happy place.

Exactly. He was such a colossal douche through the campaign (and for decades before) that everything afterwards is handwaved away as “baked into the cake.”

Dems in Disarray?
