This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Avenetti is far too invested in being a media hound to be someone that makes thoughtful measured decisions. It was always inevitable that he’d pull something dumb.
Agreed, more people need to take a stand against rags like the Daily Caller. If it was against a reputable news organization I might be more inclined to think it’s “full on stupid.”
Threatening then with legal actions of they are committing libel isn’t really dumb, especially if it’s just bluster.
I don’t really see any suggestion that avenatti actually tried to claim that email was off the record, other than Hasson saying so… Which isn’t exactly the gold standard of credibility. Unless he’s talking about the boilerplate stuff at the bottom of the email, which likely goes on every email avenatti sends.
Avenetti is kind of like fighting Trump with Trump. It could backfire but it’s hard to dislike him, because his media hound aggro strategy is actually kind of de-normalizing the insane amount of corruption around Trump that we have just acclimated to. It’s not normal and people should be outraged.
It reminds me of playing a very loose poker player. You want to play loser than normal, but not as loose as them. Avenetti needs to reign it in enough to be credible, while still being substantially more outrageous than a normal lawyer.
