I was expecting something like this.
Hard to respect any lectures the USA gives on democracy and peaceful transition.
It’s even more poignant because the current number 1 (Kenyatta) and number 2 (Odinga) in Kenya very nearly started a civil war but hashed things out at the last minute.
Iirc #2 was alleging a fraudulent election and threatening mass violence (by mobilising his tribal base,) and that #1 had orchestrated mass violence (by mobilising his tribal base) during the election.
Things looked dicey for a while, but no one stormed parliament.

I was thinking- if the House impeaches again, I think the Senate will either drag it out to end Trump’s term, or just say there’s not enough time.
Should the House try anyways?
Could Biden try something tricky (He won’t, but this is what I’d try)
I’d claim Trump , as a former military officer (as Commander-in-chief), can be recalled to active duty by the military, then court-martial him for his actions. Maybe instead of Supermax he just goes to Leavenworth and military prison.
Just impeach him again. Put the stain in the history books. Impeached by the House for fomenting an insurrection against the United States. And if the Republicans want to go down in history as not doing anything about it, then fuck em.
This is a sentiment with which I could abide i.e. +1

Checks out.
EDIT: Also, from now on, I’m calling the USA “Untied States of America”. At this point it feels like that’s more accurate than “United”.
None of which has anything to do with the 1st amendment, which is being invoked here…

It’s such a death of Stalin situation for the GOP. Half of them will scurry back to lick his feet the moment he shows signs of life.
There’s no downside to McConnell staying mum. Plus, it involves just doing nothing. This, despite all the media coverage treating him as some sort of strategic super-genius, is McConnell’s signature move. He has a black belt in sitting on his ass as events wash over the nation.
Standard fuck Ben Sasse disclaimer.
Not a good start for Joe Biden.
Ah, corporate responses.
PR flack: So we’ll call out “hateful” speech …
Lawyer: (Looks through corporate handbook) Yes, that’s valid grounds for termination under our social media policy.
PR flack: … and failing to follow safety procedures.
Lawyer: Put that first. That’s much more of a slam-dunk for termination.
PR flack: So we’re good to go!
Lawyer: You’re not going to explicitly condemn her call to murder the President-elect? Most people would consider that the most shocking part.
PR flack: Naaaaaah. Some of our customers probably feel the same way. Don’t want to rile 'em up.

Had Joe just conceded these good folks never would have had to attack the capitol.
They’re not wrong, if Biden hadn’t run and pwned them, there would be have been no need for this. Why didn’t he just lose, libs? Why?
