There’s no reason it has to be slow, is there? They already have it written up. Send it to the floor and vote. What’s stopping them? Procedure? Fuck all that. He tried to kill them. If they think he’s a threat to start a war, fuck the procedure and just vote.

While they can rush things through a lot, at best there are going to be at least hours if not days before both houses vote. He has plenty of time to do bad stuff.

They don’t make a great personal terror force if they are all in jail.

And letting them go there costs you way more on top of it. You support your brown shirts or they’ll go home.

What, jailhouse lawyers aren’t a thing anymore?
Yes, this. Even more time because, again, there is no indication that the Senate deviate from their standard rules / procedure for handling an impeachment referral from the House. Things like, e.g., holding an actual trial and allowing the President to present a defense.

I mean it’s a trial, the defendant in a trial should be able to mount a defense. I can understand why impeachment isn’t designed to be something done in 24 hours. And I don’t think you really want that either because the GOP will control the House and the Senate again at some point.
I COMPLETELY agree that Trump poses a serious threat, it’s just that impeachment isn’t a tool designed to meet an immediate threat like that. Which is why they’ve been pursuing the 25th amendment and reaching out to the Joint Chiefs while they also move along with impeachment.

View from my local Congresswoman. I am not a fan of hers, but the fact she immediately cosponsored the impeachment bill earns her a lot of brownie points. It’s more than I expected.
I gave her a call to let her know she did good.

And yet Rudy “Four Seasons Landscaping” Giuliani is still on his pardon list.
My understanding of things is that White House counsel has informed the President that he is at real risk for legal repercussions for all this, it’s the main motivating reason that he made his little video last night. So - understanding that it is within the President’s authority to pardon whoever he wishes, is it not possible that he would have to answer for letting these criminals go? Not in the sense of being charged for anything, but answering for why he would do such a thing? For instance: if someone wanted to make a case that Trump had incited a riot in order to stop or reverse the electoral process, that someone might look to the many tweets calling for them and then to his potentially pardoning those same people as incriminating actions? In that case, might pardoning carry a legal risk for him? I realize that may not make the most sense or be accurate within the practice of law, it’s just me wondering. For the record, I Am Not A Lawyer but I used to watch a lot of Law and Order.
I’m pretty sure that’s the senate phase. I don’t know why it would take to next week to get to the House, which is the indictment phase, other than the Dems making sure they have enough votes to pass the articles in the House. We’re talking about why the equivalent of the complaint hasn’t been filed, not why he wasn’t actually booted this week.
Very much this. It should be done, but it should be done right. We don’t want a situation where the articles of impeachment are done, and then the GOP goes “oh yeah, we absolutely would support this, but you broke the rules there and there while putting this together, so we can’t in good conscience vote on this…”
If they end up not impeaching him, though, then I’ll agree with the anger. But I don’t see any reason to doubt that they’ll do it, unless he resigns first. Way too much political anger has already been expressed, and way too many people have said that this is unforgivable (including the top Dems). To go back on that now, would be a very bad look.

Gotcha! That is fair, point taken and conceded.
We all know the Senate will never convict. The Repubs are all in on this. 150 of them still voted in favor of overthrowing a lawful election.
Get the Impeachment done, today. Fucking yesterday. Mid next week is giving the Senate an out to just wait for the end of his term. Make them go on record, again, as wanting democracy to die.

Unfortunately I’m pretty sure he would not face any legal consequences at all for pardoning seditionists. Since he’s a narcissistic psychopath shame isn’t a thing for him. He may lose political capital, but maybe not. He’s in so deep at this point. How many people who haven’t already had it with him are going to turn against him for the pardon vs. how many supporters he will cement or gain back by it? I’m sure his overestimation of it leans to the later.
I believed that myself, but former DJT spokesperson A. J. Delgado was saying yesterday that he wasn’t concerned with criminal liability (in this particular DC case), the video rather was put out as damage control because DJT and company (I have little doubt Javanka played a role here) could feel the ‘run in 2024!’ grift was getting away from them. They wanted to take some of the stench off of him so they could count on the grift dollars rolling in.
She may not be correct, but she seemed pretty confident. I can see it, the grift is everything for these scumbags.
