The lesson? If you’re going to start a coup, you better win.

They have spent years emboldening these idiots. I don’t think the “Leopards eating faces” meme has ever been more appropriate

The new crowd size.

I was young in the 80’s, where nuclear holocaust was a real worry. I remember the Soviets placing SS-20 missiles pointing at Western Europe, and the European left-wingers protesting against placement of Pershing missiles. Maybe that worry never left me totally, and that is the explanation why I am revisiting some of those feelings right now.

I am not really worried, but I can’t totally silence that voice in the back of my head, suggesting that the mood inside the White House right now, is not totally unlike what it was in the Führer bunker in Berlin in 1945. And I am pretty sure, that if Adolf have had nuclear launch codes at that time, he would not have hesitated to punch in his pin code.

Sure, but it’s bad. And honestly, it’s hard to see why McConnell would even bother. He probably doesn’t care what Trump does, since Trump will be gone in 12 days and that departure won’t be McConnell’s fault.

I thought it was super-neat how a hallway full of her fellow terrorists let her take a lead through a broken window which 4 or 5 agents were covering with guns.

Better check with Sorbo on this.

TBF, if you watched her pre-game video, she seemed pretty much up for anything. I don’t have any trouble seeing her Leeroy Jenkinsing headfirst through the window.

I think if Pelosi is satisfied that the danger of a Trump decision to launch a nuclear attack has been circumvented, then it probably has been circumvented. It would be crazy to say so otherwise, because that threat is a powerful argument for removing him. She’s not stupid.

When I was 37 I took comfort in Michael Palin’s line in Holy Grail, “I’m 37! I’m not old!”

Ah, those were the days.

The Rule of Law Defense Fund (RLDF), a 501©(4) arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), helped organize the protest preceding the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol that took place on January 6, 2021.

As a 501©(4), RLDF is not required to reveal its donors. RLDF has received at least $175,000 from the Koch-backed Freedom Partners. Other RLDF donors include Judicial Crisis Network, the Rule of Law Project, and the Edison Electric Institute.

Democratic AGA response

“The continued peddling of conspiracy theories and pandering to President Trump’s dangerous lies by the Republican Attorneys General Association, the Rule of Law Defense Fund, and some current and former Republican Attorneys General has gone unchecked for too long. Current and former Republican AGs have been directly involved with efforts to undermine the results of the 2020 presidential election, and now the party of so-called ‘law and order’ played a role in recruiting the domestic terrorists who breached the U.S. Capitol to attack Vice President Mike Pence for doing his Constitutionally-mandated job to certify the Electoral College.”

[…]

“It is not enough for Republican Attorneys General to denounce the violence at the Capitol; they must publicly distance themselves from the Republican Attorneys General Association and its leadership. And we encourage any individual and entities financially-backing the committee to abstain from further supporting an organization that makes such a mockery of the rule of law and our beloved democracy.”

On the other hand, while Trump has a lot of shit coming at him after 1/20, it’s a fucking picnic compared to what Hitler had coming at him should he have been alive when Soviet troops entered the bunker.

It is crazy to me to see claims the cap police let protestors in. That is not what happened according to. most videos/journalists accounts. The failure was not being more prepared at beginning and not getting national guard there faster. But the everyday cap police got the shit kicked out of them and then tried to defuse once they lost control of the situation.

I think they should have used more force earlier which would have involved shooting first folks over the fence. That was the only chance but once perimeter was breached, cap police didn’t have much choice. I also believe police should have used more force during the summer protests.

Law and order relies a great deal on the consent of the governed in that there simply aren’t enough officers to control big populations that decide they no longer want to obey the law. The norm of order in the USA has been eroded a great deal over the last 4 years and I am not sure I see stopping point.

Well, ok it’s not strictly secret, but given the legal ramifications of divulging the contents, isn’t that effectively what a closed session is?

Well they should have expected that given how ol’ Sheev treated his co conspirators.

When I first heard people had been yelling “Traitor!” at Graham I imagined it was for, you know, enabling Trump, failing to prevent Russian meddling in elections, spreading lies, jumping aboard the subversion-of-democracy train, etc. etc. Imagine my surprise when I learned it was the MAGAs instead.

I can see that this confusion might lead to awkward situations in the future.

I propose that the MAGAs get to scream “Traitor” at Lindsey on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; while pro-democracy folks get to scream “Traitor!” at him on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with Sundays alternating between the two.

Maybe on Sunday we just join up with Q-crowd to all yell at him. It’ll help bring the country together.
