Just because you have access to classified materials doesn’t mean you can just have them lying around unsecured in your office.
Any classified materials would have been secured.

There are very well described rules for handling classified information in a non-classified space (like the US capital in general) you would not be allowed to have any classified material unless you were transporting it from one secure place to another. In that case it would be secured an envelope and marked with a cover page (and Pelosi is not a person who is transporting classified info from one space to another). There’s no way a laptop in that environment would be allowed to have any classified material on it.
I’m sure there are secure rooms in the capital; in those areas classified material and laptops would be allowed to be in the open. But not in a general office. Having classified info in an environment like that is asking to have your clearance revoked.
I suspect the “most classified” material that would be allowed in the capital would be that bullshit category that dick Cheney made up, CUI, which stands for controlled unclassified information. He made that up because there was unclassified stuff he wanted to keep the press from getting a hold of. Even after all this time most agencies do not have a clear handling process in place for that kind of information. Which indicates how important they think it is.

They actually do have defined procedures for handling CUI now… it’s actually a pain in the ass, because they have declared anything that used to be FOUO to now be CUI and require the handling procedures.
But part of that procedure means that any CUI information on that laptop would require that the data drive be encrypted.
I’d enjoy seeing Rudy’s hair product run down his face again.
