As someone from the same political spectrum, I get what your saying, but don’t forget that could only be true if Dems managed to do what we’re sure they won’t and empty his fake economic appeal. Also, as above, don’t ignore the allure of a figure that was failed by [bunch of groups conspiring against them despite that making no sense].

The political discourse here is that everyone is owed an explanation they can understand. That privilege is rapidly expiring.

Society doesn’t owe you an explanation as to why the earth is round, why lizard people aren’t real, why Trump isn’t a hero, why the elections are fair. Society doesn’t owe you an explanation and storming the Capital is literally a manifestation of why. Not getting your priors accepted is not tyranny, and being excluded is not despotism. In the end there is such a thing as objective reality, and we’re not obligated to allow you to bend the world until it fits your nightmares.

A scene from the newly announced sequel, Apocalypse Now: For Real This Time:

Nice.

I’m not hoping, what I’m saying is that is that all Republican presidential candidates that can win the primary will be fascist authoritarians, and Trump is the least competent of the bunch, and the most likely to lose a general.

Doing an impeachment trial after the fact is a waste of time. THe only possible benefit would be if enough Republicans agreed on it, and that caused Trump to start his own party and fund his own candidates splitting the Republicans for good. This is a very unlikely scenario.

The Romney wing of the Republicans cannot win a presidential primary anymore. Only the fascists can- the Republican party is a fascist party to its core now.

Didn’t you say this in 2016, and then you actually voted for Trump in the primary?

I voted for Bernie- largely because I felt Hillary would lose to any Republican. I’ve never voted in a Republican primary- I started considering myself a Democrat back in 2004. My primary votes were Edwards/DNV (Obama was incumbent)/Bernie/Bernie.

I also believe that Hillary would have lost by a bigger margin to any of Trump’s main rivals - definitely losing the popular vote. Kasich would have been a landslide.

Good thread from Henry Farrell on why Democrats actually need to be divisive; why the Republican Party needs to be divided in order to fix itself.

No, I was that idiot.

Must read thread by historian on popular protests who was present at the MAGA insurrection.

Greenfield is not prone to dramatic statements. If anything his entire existence is mocking people who do it.

Completely OT, but we can all use a smile in these crazy days. Apparently it is snowing heavily in Madrid for the 1st time in 61 years, so someone had the opportunity to finally do this:

And a massive snowball fight:

I’m gonna stop you there. Regardless of whether or not you think the Democrats could beat Trump again in 4 years, he must never be allowed the chance. How you can live through the last 12 months, particularly the last 10 weeks, and especially the last 5 days and not agree with that is beyond me.

I have zero faith in the electorate to not give him 70 million + votes even now, but that is completely besides the point. He has millions of brainwashed cultists at his disposal right now. This needs to end. Destroying Trump and his conspiracy fueled fascist movement needs to be the number one priority.

I was just talking with my wife about this possibility. What are the chances, with and/or without a self pardon? I mean, it simultaneously feels like it has to happen but somehow couldn’t possibly happen.

P.S. Hallelujah! I finally caught up with the thread again! I haven’t played a PC game since this shit went down. Trying to keep up with P&R is taking up all my free time!

Exactly. If Trump runs in 2024 the Democrats will probably win. But America will have already lost. Lost by a lot. Because that means we are an America that is now okay with Trump’s behavior.

No idea, but Greenfield’s entire Twitter persona is slapping down stupid bullshit that people say that is akin to this.

So… I’m inclined to believe it is possible. Now political will is another matter entirely, but he thinks there is a legal path to it or he wouldn’t have said it.

I just want to point out that while the average Twitter link in this thread was clicked ~5-10 times, this one was clicked 68 (and counting). Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Me too! It only took 3 days (and that’s for this thread alone… I haven’t even attempted to keep up with the rest). Goodness that’s a lot of posting.

The most telling parts of that thread:

So here’s the thing about that: those rules ALWAYS apply. USCP typically expects that organizations will tell their people to follow those rules. And those organizations do just that. It is part of the growing number of failures of the USCP plan that a lot of their planning seemed to center on the idea that few people present would be carrying prohibited items. Like, they expected these folks to follow the protocols that sharply organized groups with central leadership would follow.

More unprecedented stuff, woo hoo.
