Yes, McConnell would like to get back to core Republican principles, like cutting taxes on the rich and putting all the Black people in jail.
So Defund the Republicans might be a viable strategy.

It’s probably the ONLY viable strategy. They can deny reality all they want, but when the campaign dollars stop flowing, and the cushy revolving door jobs stop materializing, they will have no choice.

Back when SE Cupp had her daily HLN show, she generally did a good job of having other people like her on. As in, the types of conservatives that this board tells me don’t exist anymore. That was my introduction to Adam Kinzinger and he always seemed like a charismatic non-MAGA path forward for that party to me. I’m sure he’s backed lots of things that are awful(and didn’t vote to impeach the first time) but I’ll take what I can get from the right at this point.

But will he continue with the stealing children from their parents?
BTW, you may all rest assured that news that McConnell was in favor of impeachment didn’t just “leak” accidentally.
That was deliberately planned.

I get what you’re saying. I even agree. But is it enough for tomorrow’s vote? Is he telling senators to impeach?

It’s happening before our eyes.
Edit to add: and it is scaring the shit out of the GOP more than anything.
Mitch hasn’t spoken to DJT since around December 15th, and there was a report (I forget the source, but it was a legit media source) saying that Mitch had said he was never going to speak to DJT again. I’m sure he relished this leak.
It’s going to be a few days, if not a week before the Senate takes this up. In fact, it may not happen until after 1/20/2021.
And honestly…I don’t know. It might.
In the House vote to impeach, though, it sounds like they’ll avoid too much debate and go to the vote, and if that happens, It sounds like you could have 250 or more votes aye votes.

Tomorrow’s vote is in the House and they certainly have enough for a majority.
I see McConnell’s message about a couple possible things:
- Prep Senate Republicans and give them cover to start coming out publicly for conviction
- Send a message to Trump that maybe he should think about resigning. This is obviously a long shot, but that doesn’t mean McConnell isn’t trying.

If he has the votes, bring back the senate now.

McConnell already said a Senate trial won’t happen before 1/19, which basically means he will be in the minority when the trial happens, so… I don’t really care what McConnell says (yes, he’ll still be the minority leader and still has influence over the other R Senators, but… I still don’t care what he says, because he’s Mitch McConnell, grim reaper of democracy).
Every day I awaken and think, “McConnell is not majority leader now.” And I bounce out of bed and blow kisses out the window at the sunrise. In the direction of Stacey Abrams and Georgia.

Yep.
Down the road we can crucify them for being such useless pieces of trash for 4 years.
But today? I say, “welcome to the right side of history!”
I care about what he says to the extent and degree that he alone has the power to bring 16 other members of his caucus into a vote to convict.
It definitely feels like this.
Yeah, I will continue to parse McConnell’s statement as, “McConnell supports impeaching Trump … after January 20th” until he actually brings the Senate back and schedules a vote on it.
Every day the investigations continue mean deeper darker scarier shit comes to light on the riots. I think impeachment becomes easier over time, the more we know.

It’s for statements of hope or uncertainty, which seems like it fits here.
