Kind of like that in the U.S. You see cars flying four or five flags and you know it’s someone radicalized by the far right. Then there are the people who have giant permanent flagpoles in their front yards – again, dollars to donuts they are far right. I’m not ashamed of the US flag but unless it’s a the 4th, Memorial Day, or Veterans Day I don’t want to fly one.

I usually cringe when I see US flag clothing, big flag displays, bumper stickers, etc, for the same reasons.

The flag painted cowboy hats. As good an intelligence test as MAGA hats.
how…what?
I know we make jokes about breaks with reality, but these motherfuckers really are pants-on-head certifiable. Dear god.
They seriously need to be institutionalized. They’re nuts on a completely new level, and they’re a pretty obvious danger to themselves and others. That there are so many of these completely batshit insane people wandering around with firearms is terrifying.
When we were looking at houses in 2019, I was always really leery of any place that was flying an American flag out front.

I mean, that’s Q. It’s the same shit they’ve been peddling for a couple of years now. And a large number of Republicans really believe all that shit. This “reality bubble” rhetoric has become very literal.
We looked at a house about 10 years ago that had framed pictures of Lenin and Stalin and other Russian Communists throughout the house. It was very odd. Turns out the owner was a college prof who taught Russian History.

Flying an American flag outside is fine. That’s a normal thing to do.
Incorporating the flag into your clothing and crap… that’s is not fine. That is not normal. It’s also disrespectful to the flag.
I’ve flown a US flag everyday since I’ve had my own place and I’m just about as liberal as they come. I love my country and love what the flag represents.

If your first name was Pedro I think you might have a real shot up there.
It hasn’t felt right to me during this presidency. I’m not proud of the things that have happened. This is just me, mind you, but there’s something about flying a flag in front of your house that conveys, “I’m ok with all these terrible things”. I’m not suggesting those that do it are bad or wrong or ok with all those things, it’s just how I feel.
None of the images or video clips in that montage are from Capitol rioters last week. Some of those clips are a couple of years old.
Per the TSA, they have not yet updated no-fly lists from persons identified in the riots. In addition, appearing on a no-fly list prevents you from getting a boarding pass or entering the boarding area of an airport. Any image showing people being taken off a plane or in a boarding/gate area are a sure-fire tipoff.
I kinda feel bad that now, whenever I see someone flying an American flag outside their home, I’m wary of them and think they’re more likely to be a Trumpist than anything else.
This, however? Perfectly acceptable.

I think we invest far too much symbolic weight in this marshal symbol. The pledge of allegiance is, after all, an oath of fealty. No democracy should traffic in flag worship. It foments nationalism and becomes a pathetic stand-in for patriotism. The idea that the flag can be disrespected is crazy to me. Burn the flag, tear it up, throw it on the ground, wipe your ass with it–does it really do anything to America? When did we become so insecure as a nation that we take umbrage so easily?
Seeing this gives me some kind of hope I didn’t know I had.
