I want to see a column that has how much they previously gave and to whom.

Also is that a list of companies that specifically halted contributions to coup-supporting Republicans, or is it a mix of companies that halted contributions to coup-supporting Republicans mixed with companies that have halted all contributions.

It seems like some companies are temporarily halting all contributions in an attempt to avoid taking a stand — saying “look we’ve halted contributions” to pro-democracy folks, but saying “we’ve halted contributions to Democrats as well as Republicans” to Trumpers.

Can the My Pillow guy support the entire GOP when every other company pulls out? Maybe Tucker’s tv dinner company can contribute too.

Yeah. Is it SOP for big corporations to just donate to everybody in Congress? I’m curious…

He can if he cuts his freebase habit in half

Uh, yeah. Price of doing business.

My guess: there will be some protests. There may be some cases of violence. But we won’t see state capitols overrun or anything like that.

Needless to say, I would really hate and be horrified to be wrong. I just feel like Jan 6 is going to be the peak for a mass gathering like that for a little while, especially now that security forces are going to be taking it seriously. I don’t think Jan 6 would have gone the way it did if there had just been sufficient forces deployed.

I think the vast majority of these people are idiots and cowards. The exception is the violent rightwing militias but I don’t think they really have the numbers or will to go at a defended position. I expect more violence down the road at softer targets to go with some protests and scattered incidents on the 20th.

EDIT: To be clear, though, the threat of state capitols and the like being attacked by a mob should be taken seriously. If I were responsible for security in any way, that’s the kind of scenario I would be expecting and planning for.

Doesn’t that presume 50 strong responses? At this point with no real repercussions felt, they’re nothing if not emboldened. The peacekeeping forces on hand have a clear dilemma, when do we shoot? Can we defuse this if we just let them get it out of their system and don’t shoot?

I’ll lay $20 to a charity of choice that there are MAGAs in statehouses by Sunday. My pick is Habitat for Humanity.

It’s common for big corporations to donate to both parties.

For example, Microsoft donated $800K to GOP legislators and $4500K to Dem legislators.

AT&T donated $1700K to the GOP and $3800K to Dems.

Target donated $300K to the GOP and $500K to Dems.

I don’t think there’s going to be riots at 50 state capitols. Does a rightwing militia want to riot or storm the capitol in Boise or Montgomery? I don’t really see why, that’s friendly territory. Washington, Oregon, places like that I could see violence and I certainly hope those state governments are taking it very seriously.

This is me just guessing, though. I have absolutely no expertise in this area or a crystal ball so I very well could be wrong. Which again would make me horrified. :(

The pledge was a marketing gimmick invented by a socialist and because it was so successful it was picked up and institutionalized.

I agree, insomuch that it applies to my state capitol Albany. Yes, there are plenty of MAGAts and cultists but I don’t see them storming it.

Not riots at all 50, but very likely protests. Of those 50, I assume half a dozen will be big enough to trigger mob mentality. Of those, I wouldn’t be surprised that one is allowed in to prevent a deadly response. But I can be wrong and hope I’m wrong; the January 6th idiots far surpassed my expectations of how extreme they could get.

So say we all.

One can dream.

JUST IN: CBS News uses wrong verb: ‘affect’ rather than ‘effect’. Grammarians grit teeth!

That’s literally the least mistakes a CBS tweet has ever had in.
