It was the day before Thanskgiving in 1987 and we had some cousins visiting from Australia I had never met before. I was obsessed with Australia and was full of excited questions. When I got around to asking him how he migrated there from Poland he rolled up his sleeve to show me a tattoo of numbers and explained what Auschwitz was, how they rounded up unsympathetic Poles what they did to them and then how he eventually escaped to Australia.
