Yes, indeed.

It’s just upsetting to see people embracing or even reveling in the idea of cruelty to or suffering of the imprisoned. I don’t like to see the rhetoric of hate and intolerance regurgitated here. Maybe I’m being a bit NIMBY about that, and I do take your point about punching up vs punching down, but I still find it quite distasteful.

This is what I think as well.

If someone refuses to eat while in custody, eventually the warden will be forced to start nasogastric tube feeds. That will almost certainly be more expensive than preparing a one-off organic diet.

I can’t speak for anyone else but for my part there is no way I would revel in cruelty or suffering. Not getting jail food sourced from Whole Foods just doesn’t meet that criteria. I find it fucking ludicrous.

Right? What the hell even is this discussion? Give the seditious cretin some “organic” nutraloaf and go advocate on behalf of some prisoners that aren’t flaming bags of treasonous shit.

Personally, my principles are consistent. Prison conditions aren’t a signature issue for me, but they are an issue I care about, and my stance has always been the same: prisoners should be treated humanely, and our prison system is mostly a fucking travesty. (See this and this, for instance.) If that’s my principle, which has been consistent for decades, why would I abandon it for this asshole? Fuck him. He doesn’t get to make me compromise what I think is right.

This is indeed a long tangent over what should really just be a quick chuckle about how alt-right culture normally derides things like wanting organic food, living with your mom, etc.

It’s actually incredibly instructive, because privilege isn’t a line on a piece of paper, it’s knowing the contours of how the system works, and then how to use that system for your own benefit regardless of the fairness of it.

Do we have any evidence that this isn’t his sincere spiritual belief? If there’s evidence beyond “Lol, what a Q-anon tool” then I’ll switch sides on this issue fast.

I have plenty of friends who have fairly alternative spiritual beliefs, including some pagans and wiccans and so forth. From what they’ve told me one of the main forms of intolerance they face on a day to day basis is people simply believing they aren’t serious, though they are, and writing them off flakes and mental cases. So I do want to see evidence that this guy just made up some dietary habits associated with his beliefs before I’ll jump on the “mock-the-special-snowflake” train. If there’s video of this guy wolfing down a non-organic McDonalds value meal last week, then that’s obviously a different story.

Or, it’s a bunch of dudes on the internet who have asserted something and will defend that something, however innocuous, with the grim determination of Kurt Russell competing in the tug of war for NBC in the Battle of the Network Stars. :)

Are they going to make him take the Ironclad Oath?

I agree. The answer to “What do we do with the assholes?” defines one’s position on rule of law.

weeeeellllllll…

Good. More even than the guy in Pelosi’s office I wanted this guy pinched. Such a slap in the face of our history.

There’s a reason that all Polish schoolchildren are required to visit Auschwitz. Having been there myself, it’s nearly impossibly to convey the level of horrors that occurred in the camps.

Fuck yes. I wore my Captain America shirt to the March for our Lives and I happened to be wearing it in January 6th. Because Captain America has always fought for what Langston Hughes calls “the America that never was and yet must be.”

Thanks. I listened to this last night. A bit of light material before bed. Heh. It’s fairly rare that people just talking holds my interest this long, but hey it was worthwhile.

Oh don’t worry. The white guy will get his catered breakfast all the black and brown people thrown in there by laws designed to keep the rich rich won’t have a single thing changed for them.

Prison conditions need to be improved. Better yet, we need a lot less people in them… but I am not going to question the guy who sieged the Capitol basically on live TV in a costume for being wrongfully held. There wasn’t some Nixon or Reagan designed law geared just for people like him to get him in there.
