These people are largely stupid, not mentally ill. You can be dumb as a rock and not be mentally ill.

In fact, if you are dumb as a rock, and you spend most of your life being told you are entitled to shit, that you’re so fucking special rules and politeness don’t apply to you, that everything is golden so long as you can step on black lives while cruising down the path of your shitty and pointless lives or even as your living it up as a goddamn Olympic swimmer, then the only thing surprising about a siege on the Capitol is that it didn’t happen sooner.

I keep hearing about how big this is, how huge it is… how unbelievable it is and that now, now some people really see! But the thing about big events is there are dozens, hundreds, even thousands of events that lead up to them. So these people are not mentally ill. The bulk of them are entitled asses who actually hold jobs which we know because they’re losing them left and right as their lives unfold right before the FBI knocks on their door and hopefully makes them wish they had never got up that morning.

So… white people who try to overthrow the government are not just a bunch of misunderstood ill people to be coddled with organic meals and pitied as their friends and neighbors watch them go down like dominos. They’re the entitled little shits that bully people who are smaller than them, who get in the faces of people and are shocked when they get taken out by an orange can of soda, and they’re the PTA presidents that run around saying how tough they are but sob about their children in handcuffs at the airport.

I’m not making excuses. I mean, they’re still dangerous. And many seem to function well enough to have careers or be elected to political office. Further mental illness is a pretty big spectrum, from severe psychosis and paranoia to less dangerous (to the general public) things like depression.
