The Bundys didn’t kill a cop and attack our democracy. At the end of the day it was basically trespassing that got out of control.
I suspect a lot of these people will get convicted. I suspect far more are going to plead out to lesser charges and the like though.
Then again, these are the Feds and they made them look bad. The Feds aren’t really nice to begin with.
And one thing you don’t ever want to do is make a cop look like an idiot. Making a Fed who is a cop look like an idiot seems very bad.

Yes, we should be prepared for a string of people to argue that they have no priors, got caught up, and, most importantly, are white, so they’re going to get probation and a fine.
The leaders, the ones with guns, the ones who conspired before/during, the ones caught on camera with stolen property, are going to get the book thrown at them. But again, they’re white so we should assume most of them will be treated kindly by the justice system.
Which is bullshit. If they conspired to interfere with the EV count, that is straight up sedition and they should get federal prison time for it.

Sure, but they will probably end up at one of these prisons:
Pensacola FPC is a minimum-security federal prison for males. Over the years, the facility has hosted a number of high profile inmates. Since its a minimum-security prison, inmates are allowed to check their emails and even work on a blog. It also has a library and a softball field. No wonder why Forbes magazine listed it as one of the “cushiest” prisons in 2009.
It’s a low-security federal prison for female offenders. Like the Pensacola FPC, this prison also had its share of high profile convicts. A former prime minister of Ukraine, an American billionaire and the daughter of a publishing magnate all spent time within its walls. It also has excellent GED and ESL programs as well as parenting courses.
FCI Bastrop is located 30 miles south of Austin and houses more than 2,000 male inmates. Each prisoner must either work or take part in educational courses as long as they pass the medical exam. These courses include ESL, GED and adult literacy. The institution also offers parenting and vocational training programs.
Located 100 miles northeast of Minneapolis, this facility hosts minimum-security federal male inmates. It provides medical and dental care and even provides prescription glasses for inmates. Sandstone also offers individual and group counseling sessions and other mental health services. It also provides incentives to inmates who successfully completed their literacy programs.
Probably. But they should be breaking rocks somewhere instead.

I’m probably speaking from a Canadian perspective here, but that bolded part… shouldn’t that be the norm rather than a ‘perk’?
Is that the guy from Cool Hand Luke?
“What we have here is a failure to communicate!”
Again, if you’re wondering what legal jeopardy and potential scariness these folks face, I direct you to Ken White discussing exactly that on the All The Presidents Lawyers podcast last week.
Short answer: they should be super-duper worried.
Longer answer: Really worried, life changing charges are on the way
Longer answer than that: They dun fucked up.
And worth noting: the coming federal felony charges require a grand jury indictment. Those will be coming.
All of this has been asked and answered a lot.
They in a heap o’ trouble, boy.

In America we haven’t quite decided whether prisons are for retribution or for rehabilitation. Right now we tend to default towards retribution in a misguided effort to dissuade others from committing crimes (which doesn’t work). So that means our prisons are generally hell holes that also have the benefit of turning some people who made mistakes into hardened criminals.
I know, we’ve had a couple hundred years to figure it out, but give us a little more time.

There’s a federal schedule for suggested sentences and judges stick to it in most cases. While I think this case is extraordinary, I think for the folks who didn’t physically harm anyone or bring in weapons, they are looking at six months max, and usually in most cases probation/house arrest is more likely- especially with COVID.
If I was a judge, I’d probably send them to jail, just to get them some exposure to the other America- that might rehabilitate them, at the very least it gets them outside the Fox News bubble for a bit which might deradicalize them. A soul saved is better than a soul destroyed.
The folks who went beyond just tresspassing are facing serious time. Those folks are the ones I assume triggercut is saying should be worried, and they should be.
Also, if sedition or insurrection charges happen, those bring serious time, but I have doubts Biden will go for those- he might want to treat these folks as common criminals to not give them any martyrdom status. It’s not like there won’t be a record of what they did making their future life uncomfortable- and they’ll be on watchlists for a very long time, let alone the no-fly list (and that’s punishment enough- they won’t be able to do those big vacations they’re used to)
If they get more than a year for a felony offense they can’t own firearms. That one is gonna sting for them.
Is that dude waving a flag or a body pillow cover?
I could be wrong, but I’d think that any de-radicalization that happens in prison is solely due to the inmate getting older.

The medical, dental and glasses is common. They get that in Rikers Island, one of the worst shitholes in the USA. I suppose group counseling and mental health services are fairly common.
Even if she doesn’t, the memes she spawned would be worth it.
