One out of two (or one out of three, depending how you count) ain’t bad! Actually, it is pretty bad.

I was Chicken Little on that, and I’m damned happy to be wrong. January 6th shocked me because I assumed the jacklegs were impotent and they surprised the hell out of me by doing something, anything. Glad to see them fold like a lawn chair.

I bet a $20 donation that something would happen and even though nobody took me up on it, I’ll still make good. Suggestions?

Probably more than a few in this crowd who already own unregistered guns.

Yeah, but now when they get caught with them, as convicted felons, the penalties go way up.

An aside: I keep reading/hearing the phrase “(un)registered guns” but AFAIK the only properly registered ones in the US are full-auto weapons, right? In fact one of the biggest bogeymen for the NRA/gun n… err enthusiasts is firearm registration.

Gun permit and registration laws are generally state / local laws, not federal laws. You can easily predict which states require registration and which do not lol.

Another podcast where Ken White calmly informs you that these doofuses are fucked.

I just listened to that earlier. Really good podcast, from both guys…

I listened to it earlier and it’s really worth listening to because they explain a lot of the details of prosecution that really shape how things will probably play out. And they explain a lot of how these same reasons that the insurrectionists are fucked over are often used in less savory ways.

It’s also refreshing to listen to very knowledgeable people who are also willing to admit when they don’t know the answer. In particular DC is weird because it isn’t a State so a lot of local law stuff that would normally be handled by the State AG ends up being handled by a separate set of Federal attorneys and how that could shape the legal front since federal attorneys tend to be a lot less speculative in bringing charges compared to State AGs.

Devin Stone with a focus less on the process (and deciphering the unique language of federal prosecutors) and more a focus on “So what crimes could these morons be facing, really?”

Also, between Ken White and Devin Stone, getting a real vibe regarding sedition as if lifted from the show House (substitute “sedition” for “lupus”):

“It’s never sedition.”

Shows some video. Reviews some statute test for sedition.

“OK. It might be sedition.”

The Army falsely denied for days that Lt. Gen. Charles A. Flynn, the brother of disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn, was involved in a key meeting during its heavily scrutinized response to the deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol.

So there are entire states where all handguns, rifles and shotguns are registered to particular owners, like cars are? I can imagine some cities have that. I know about concealed carry permits, but that’s not registration per se (for instance, I don’t think most specify a particular handgun by s/n as the one the permitee can carry).

It varies by weapon type and by state. So e.g. California requires registration of all firearms, Maryland and NY require registration of handguns but not rifles / shotguns, Florida does not require any registration at all and in fact it is a crime to maintain a list of gun owners in Florida. Yes, registration means s/n record of all guns in the category.

In DC, in order to conceal carry, you have to have a permit from the District, specifically. You cannot open carry in DC.

Anyone who brought a weapon to the riot was very likely violating DC gun laws, as well as the federal law that prohibits firearms to be brought onto the federal areas of the National Mall, Capitol, and other government buildings.

So many boomers get drawn in… probably half of them because their lives are dull.

Time to subsidize some choice hobbies for boomer dudes. Give them a choice:

  1. Model trains
  2. Video games
  3. NASCAR superfan
  4. Civil/Revolutionary war re-enactor

Give them a $1000 starter set a few years before retirement. Advertise heavily on any MyPillow channel.

I’m mostly kidding. But soooo many of these guys are bored stupid idiots with too much time on their hands. With hate in their hearts, sure, but it feels like the hate part has a grow light on it these days.

And I’m with the hang em high contingent on the ones who tried to sack the capitol. Examples must be set. Also, it will be funny when they figure out that they cannot take cruises, fly, or own guns anymore.

They already got point 4 checked. Except for the “re-” part.

Many used to check 3 until NASCAR went against MAGA.

Most of the folks storming the capitol – especially those charged so far – are much younger than boomers.

“Boomer” is not a catch-all term for “People older than me that I don’t like.”

I feel ya but this is a losing battle.
