Oh right. Society is to blame. Guess I get to break out this reference again.
That’s bullshit, you’re a white suburban punk just like me.
(plate of shrimp)
I’ll say this for Hawley. He’s not half-assing it. He’s got his first class seat on the MAGA train.

They’re now talking about not charging the non-violent ones because it will “overburden the courthouse”.
Screw that. If it’s overburdened, they are risks to society- charge them and make them wait it out for years- bail should be appropiate for what they’re charged with. They wouldn’t be showing mercy to non-white protestors. These folks deserve zero leniency at this point.
I mean, the folks who just wondered in, I’m not saying they should be charged with sedition and given 10-20 years , but you can’t let that slide given what happened and why they were there. the other folks deserve the book thrown at them. (I’d be willing to let the first group plea out to misdemeanors and perhaps even try to turn them into informants in exchange for dropping charges if they bring in a bigger fish)
We need to come together and attempt to understand and address his concerns.

They need to show that the USA legal system don’t support white nationalist terrorism by being excruciating with this.
But they seems to using this so show their support for white nationalist terrorism, again.
Maybe USA is a apartheit state. When the racism comes from the state.
Maybe they realized people won’t convict. Just needs 1 trumper to hang the jury. What’s the percentage of GOP’ers who still say they Did Nothing Wrong?
Since it’s very inception and each and every day since!

Well now I’m curious, and glad to shut down the discussion if it’s offensive, but I always assumed the racial nastiness in the USA towards “Hispanics” and the resulting slur were directed more at Hispaniola than Hispania.

In DC the odds of a hardcore Trumper on the jury willing to hang a jury for a long time is pretty low.
Americans have used racial slurs / epithets for literally every people who have immigrated in any number to the US over time. Irish, Italians, Spaniards, Polish, Germans, Chinese, etc. The slur currently directed at Latin Americans was directed at the Spanish, too

As a person of Italian descent, I was surprised to see (and actually hear, one time) that ‘wetback’ is not just an insult to Mexicans. It can be for Italians and other Latino persons.
I was called a wetback wop by a regular customer at a bar I worked at. FWIW he was a very drunk Irish guy. Ironic, eh?
I’m willing to bet 99% of Americans can’t point to “Hispaniola“ on a map.
Similar numbers have been reported about their ability to point out where they live.

That’s all I was asking, did it have a particular point to Hispaniola (with the significant African population) or was it broader?

Nor could most of the world, I would wager, but we’re talking about centuries ago and oppression that cropped up when it was a better-known term.
I always thought the anti-Hispanic slur in question was a take on the pronunciation of “speak” by Spanish-speaking people learning English, but what do I know.
