Sure sounds like some hardcore economic anxiety right there.
I saw Iced Earth in the Ripper years. They were… fine. I had no idea Jon Schaffer was a nutcase.
The thing I remember most from that show though was the vocalist from Children of Bodom spitting all over the stage during their opening set. No way I’d have wanted to follow that disgusting mess. RIP that dude though. He died last year.
Yeah, Alex had a long life of rarely controlled alcoholism by most reports. He lived and partied hard and it sadly caught up to him eventually.
Jon has always been pretty crazy if you read any of his actual writings. I’m immediately dubious of a dude running a civil war memorabilia shop, cuz that feels like one big, “I’m just respecting our HERITAGE!” excuse turned into a business. But all those albums about evil alien illuminati undermining humanity from within the government? Yeah, turns out there’s a reason he was able to turn that shit out so swiftly, lol.
I saw IE once in the first Barlow era and once in the second, great show both times. Stu Block, their last vocalist after Matt left again, was opening the first time around with Into Eternity, actually. I even saw Demons & Wizards at ProgPower in 2019. Own all their albums and a handful of shirts. Feel pretty guilty about having given that much money to a goddamn insurrectionist, but he’ll never get another cent from me after his bullshit in January.
Other than that one concert ticket, that’s all he got from me. It was at The Trocadero in Philly, another lost venue that was one of a kind.
But yeah, now that you mention it, they did a whole concept album about the Civil War IIRC. Big red flag right there. I hope he helps put away all the dirtbags though.

The shame of it is that Glorious Burden is an absolutely rocking album, and quite possibly their musical apex.

Years of watching TV designed to persuade me to realities that don’t exist have taught me it’s weird they mixed a former cop in with the general population. Also, fuck him. He didn’t trip and fall into an insurrection to overthrow the government. He’s just an entitled asshole who didn’t think he would actually face a consequence because he’s a white man with a mission.

He’s probably in a dorm with people up for non-violent drug charges.
But since he’s super racist, that’s a problem for him.
If only his life experience had provided him some small amount of knowledge of the criminal justice system. Must be quite a surprise for a *checks notes* retired NYPD cop.
Beating a cop with a weapon gets you arrested, who knew??

Probably shot and killed for a good chunk of us.

I guess he should be held with the other people that have attacked cops. /shrug

I see what you did there.
It is a more permanent solution, for sure.
I’d love to see how he arrived at the “about 70%” figure.

By performing an anal-cranial inversion.
Well, which 70% of the internet are we talking about? The mad-bomber might be on to something.
He could’ve done some serious damage. I think the AWS data center complex in Ashburn, VA is responsible for a huge chunk of AWS-reliant internet traffic in the eastern, southern and central US. And automatic re-routing if that site is destroyed would have a pretty bad knock-on effect.
AWS has 61 data/server farms in the US. 38 of those are in Northern Virginia.
