Why?. This whole thing was all political theater anyway. It was just to get the Rs on record as opposed. Mission accomplished. Having two more D’s voting “Yes” on a doomed measure wouldn’t really change anything.

The Senate is seriously working like 3 days a week right now. WTF. Why the hell don’t Schumer and Pelosi keep them in session at least 5 days a week? If R’s are going to be obstructionist, give them plenty of public opportunities to vote against popular measures.

Because of the gravity of what happened on January 6th. Not bothering to show up sends the message that it wasn’t a big deal. Which is exactly what the GOP is trying to sell to get this behind them as quickly as possible.
Btw I talked to some FBI agents that were there, Flak jackets up and pushing people back. Kindly like.
I am gong to dc this next weekend – so what do I see when I get there? A armed camp?
Lincoln let anyone come over and talk to him…
Sigh I really do wonder if the old oath “foreign and domestic” which some of YOU sworn too …realized how dangerous domestic was.
I wonder if its the GOP… there is something else going on. I want a strong reprublican party --esp so it off sets my democratic party’s extremism. But that wasn’t GOP… that was a radicalized worship of one man.
Didnt we all grow up to understand that worshiping one man was a serious problem? or do we have to learn that every generation.
Let me tell you what i really think: We never learn… we will suck up to he latest guy that says hell d whats best … we like his direct speech – we like how he does things , and we all forget (all of us as americans) what that really means…
My trip to washington next week (to a doj debriefing) I bet i see a city thats almost under siege. Ill report back.
People literally worship Jesus…
Are we banning monotheism? I am down, my brothers and sisters.
I mean, in so far that he is God, yes. Are you suggestion that Trump is also God?
It’s desperation that they’ve lost the war (in this case cultural). Worship of the man comes out of desperation.
And that whole oath thing , a lot of ex-mil fash claim that their oath applies when they get out.
What they don’t know if that there are some folks on the left who feel the same way, and they are younger and smarter.

An important distinction. Also he’s been dead for roughly 2000 years, while Obviously-Not-God Trump is schlupping around Florida on a golf course. He’s not preforming miracles, he’s eating KFC and McDonalds.

More parallels with Rome:
Despite the fact that, at this point, Catiline’s intent to murder Cicero and various other members of the Senate, to stop the vote count and overturn the foregone election results, and unlawfully to seize the levers of government through violence is well known to all of them, a good number of these very same legislators and leaders shrug the whole thing off . Some sympathized with his political program; others were implicated in the plot; still others were basically in the same boat as Catiline, having committed similar crimes and sexual debaucheries that limited their political futures; and still others were perfectly fine with ending the trappings of republicanism if it meant they retained their power and Senate seats. And some simply couldn’t be roused to care.
But it turned out to be a brief reprieve. The rot had already set in. What mattered most in the long-term was not the immediate threat of the insurrectionists, but rather the complacency, if not sympathy, of the other ostensibly-republican leaders . It revealed the hollowness of not just their own souls but also the nation’s.
I mean, his not being dead of cardiovascular failure is kind of a miracle, right?
Perhaps, but their actions aren’t necessarily what matters. What matters is what people will say and write about them and what other people want to believe about them.
Was mostly snarky. I am curious if there is a personality type that is trained to need some sort of head. Is there a preference for authoritarianism that correlates with religion, and does this preference say something innate about the type of person, OR does it mean that people trained on religion/other OBEY OBEY OBEY mechanisms are pretrained to obey hierarchies?

Depends if you agree with Thomas Paine or Thomas Hobbes.
Looks like Hobbes might have the edge.
My fear is that democracy is an aberration and what humans really prefer is authoritarian rule. The number of years of countries have had some kind of democracy is dwarfed by the centuries we’ve lived under despots.
