I’m 100% certain that all of them believe their orange god will pardon them, hence the total lack of concern. I worry they’re right. Frankly, I’m surprised it’s taken this long - one of the reasons he needs to be removed ASAP is to prevent it.

As messed up as it is, that’s the reality. People get respect by being a legitimate threat.
If you have a bunch of armed folks, that dramatically changes the calculus.
A bunch of passive protestors can be pretty easily removed. Nothing surprising is going to happen, so it’s easy to analyze and decide what your action will be and what the repercussions will be.
But a mob of thousands of folks, many of whom may be armed? That is harder. If you confront that mob, you need to be willing and able to put people down with force.
Which, to be clear, I think is what they should have done. They were woefully unprepared for what happened, and there’s no real excuse for that.
One sure way to make certain Pence won’t 25th, is to have Nancy publicly tell him to do it.

Sure, and you’d think that alone would be enough, but Nancy telling him to do it decreases the likelihood, let’s face it. Republicans have been villifying and demonizing Democrats in general, and certain democrats (Nancy, the squad) in particular, for so long that doing anything that could be seen as cooperating with them is politically toxic to them.
