Universal Messenger for OS X?

What do you guys like? I have AIM, once in a blue moon use Yahoo messenger, and now have met some people who use MSN. Too many programs! So what’s a good universal messenger with a nice interface that combines AIM and MSN, at minimum? And runs on OS X?

Adium is pretty good

Adium. It connects to everything. No video on it, but as a text messenger it’s hands down the best.

For most of my messaging these days, I actually use Meebo, which is just a fancy Web 2.0 site that connects to apparently everything. You lose a few features, I suspect, but none of them are anything that I actually use, so it works for me.

Thanks guys, I’m on Adium now. Added another fowl-related icon to my dock.

The HUD contact list style with the “looks great with” make it uh…look great.

http://thecosmicmachine.com/ for Flickr, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter if you like it outside of a browser but Twitterific at http://www.twitterific.com is the best Twitter client.

late to the show-- Adium-- but mostly thanks for the link to the extras-- lots of cool stuff there!

Adium was eating 30% CPU here. I switched back to Psi (less than 1% usage), since I only use Jabber. You really notice that on a laptop, when the temperatures shoot up.

Adium usually reads 0.0-0.1% CPU usage for me, but perhaps it’s Jabber or some Xtra (I don’t use either) at fault.

Jabber is just a text protocol like any. Didn’t run any plugins, either. My thighs don’t burn with Psi!

Sounds like you need a fan controller more than an IM client. The default behavior for the Macbook Pro is to emulate Shadow Priests in WoW. If you value not giving yourself second-degree burns over running super-quietly, third-party fan controllers can force the fans to kick in earlier.

Pfft. I shouldn’t need more CPU for my IMing than my coding & compiling ;)
(It’s actually more than movie playing requires, too)
