Even if the overall deal is smaller I guess that’s a ‘win’ that he can claim.
He might claim victory, and some part of his base will believe it. We’ve already seen him switch from “Build the Wall” to “Finish the Wall” as his motto.
But we’ve also seen the limits of his ability to bullshit his base. If Coulter/ Hannity/ Limbaugh don’t buy it, the “alternative fence” narrative will be weakened, even among the diehards. Trump knows that, as his behavior has demonstrated.
I think we’re headed to an emergency declaration. That may make it even worse for him in the end, but we already know that he’s awful at this.
At his rally last night Trump said that really they should be saying “finish that wall” as they’ve already started building it. So, in the end he’s going to claim credit for the existing wall or he’s just going to pretend that his wall was built because his supporters are too stupid to know otherwise
