If it gets that far then you can expect pretty much a complete collapse of our country.

Once ATC stops showing up, Trump’s little tantrum will be finished quickly. I hope they get the flu tomorrow. What a shit show.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson is the world’s busiest airport. It is already apparently getting pretty hairy there.

The Super Bowl is being played in Atlanta on February 3rd.

Imagine that place on Monday, February 4th if the shutdown continues.

If that’s the case maybe something better would emerge from the wreckage, or I’d be stuck with Armando embedded in a militia. ^_^

Speaker Pelosi is wonderful at this :)

Wait, did she just un-invite him until the government is open?

:D

Playing the world’s smallest violin.

I have the deepest sympathy for all of you guys innocently being screwed-over by this shutdown. I’m not sure I’d be able to stay polite if I ran into one of those Trump supporters, though.

Pelosi has pretty much aced it so far. Good to see that the assumption that her experience would make her a great foil vs Trump has proven to be correct.

Who actually controls this? If Trump can just say ‘hell no, I’m giving it on the regular day’ then the ploy could be at best a minor ‘gotcha’ win for Pelosi and at worst a PR win for Trump.

I think @MikeOberly is tweet quoting the correct take on this. The Constitution only requires that Congress be addressed, not that it has to be in person or televised.

Trivia for the day: of the 230-sh state of the unions/inaugural addresses, only about 2/3 have been delivered in person.

The remaining 1/3 were just delivered as text to Congress (since the Constitution requires a message, not specifically a speech) or, as in 1945, read to Congress by someone the President delegated.

I wish the SOTU would just go away. It’s pointless. But you know this will infuriate the orange mobster, since he wants to go on tv and talk about what an unprecedented success he is. Good for Pelosi to tell him to get bent.

## Whether Trump gives his State of the Union speech at the Capitol is actually up to Nancy Pelosi

It’s the House speaker’s prerogative to invite the President to give the State of the Union. While there’s no precedent for it (that we’re aware of), if Pelosi decides the President shouldn’t go to the Capitol to speak on Jan. 29, the President will not go on Jan. 29

Keep in mind, in order to green light the State of the Union, both the House and the Senate have to pass resolutions. Neither have done so yet — and Pelosi controls whether the House passes one at all.

I applaud the move, but it feels like this will just become the precedent, that a Republican House will mirror when there’s a Democratic President. Which might be fine. The SOTUs aren’t very valuable in any other way than as a campaign speech for the President.

I am becoming a fervent Nancy Pelosi fan. She’s just so good at this.

This will happen because Republicans are evil.

Thanks.

The current circumstance makes that well worth the risk. According to me, anyway.
