US or Japanese PSP?

Are there any apps that let you encode certain video formats into MP4 that work better than others? I’ve got quite a few DVDs of TV shows ripped onto my PC and I’d like to encode those so I can watch it on the bus to college in the mornings. Also, how small does a file become when compressed into MP4? Suppose an episode of a show is around 200 MB, how small does it become after the encoding?

I’ve used PSP9 and Datel’s Media Manager software. PSP9 doesn’t do a lot of hand holding, and got wiggy with me at least once. I ripped my Family Guy movie DVD and ended up with 5 ~20-minute chunks. PSP9 did a batch convert and saved 5 files onto the PSP. Only later did I discover that the 4th chunk had the Spanish audio track rather than the English one on the rest of the files. The total size of the movie was about 700-800 meg, but I can’t stand blocky compression artifacts, so I jacked up the quality settings.

Media Manager does OK with things and automates the process more, but it was utterly unable to use the English track for Kung Fu Hustle or apply the subtitles to the video to accompany the original audio. I eventually gave up.

Do either of them have rudimentary address book (PDA) type functions?

I’ve heard unconfirmed rumors that Nintendo is planning on PDA software for the DS.

Unfortunately for the DS, I’ve just seen the screenshots of FIFA 06 and WE7 on the PSP…pretty much a done deal now.
