USB port in car stereo

I have a Hyundai Sonata with a USB port where you can plug in a flash drive and play music. The manual says you should not leave a flash drive stored in the port at all times, since “stuff” can happen to it when you start the car. Is this a major issue, or do you think it it safe to leave the flash drive plugged in?

Thanks.

I’ve left my flash drive plugged in for a couple of years now with no bad “stuff.” Now I have something else to worry about.

I suspect it’s one of those things where in a tiny percentage of cases some power surge or whatnot might corrupt a flash drive, but to cover their ass, they issue dire warnings.

I can only imagine the thumb drive exploding from the port one day as you start your car.

Sadly, this stereo does not read OGG (not a big deal) or FLAC (darn it!).

Probably not a major issue. If you’re concerned though, just use a cheap flash drive that wouldn’t put you out if it does get nuked.
