"V" - Curse of the Large-Eyed Women

It seems impossible for me to search QT3 for a TV show with only one letter, so don’t stone me if this is a duplicate!

I was largely ignoring various internet ads I saw for this TV show, until I saw a preview for it before Paranormal Activity. My family were buzzing after the preview, apparently it was a movie or a mini-series from way back when that they remember enjoying. The preview seemed suitably creepy, though it appeared to be more oriented towards a movie than a TV series.

The first 9 minutes are on hulu http://www.hulu.com/watch/104096/v-a-first-look-at-v and bar a few skeptical acting moments; the premise seems interesting. I would like it to be an awesome old sci-fi reboot like BSG, but looks like it may be leaning towards Lost or Flash Forward territory.

Airs Nov. 3rd. ABC 8pm.

Also, I know nothing about the original series, nor what “V” stands for. I’m assuming it stands for something…so please keep significant spoilers out of this thread for people born less than 25 years ago!

Visitors :P

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I’m ruined!

And to think I was guessing Venereal.

The original was one of the best Miniseries for those of us who are in our 30s now.

I can remember the dude knocking his own arm off after it got hit with liquid nitrogen as clear as anything else from back then.

Baby tongues = nightmares.

Scrax isn’t going to want to read this thread anymore.

Other awesome moments: the Michael Jackson Thriller inspired uniforms!

I have fond memories of reading the novelization of the original miniseries. I had at that time not had any idea it had been on TV, and I was young enough that it may not have actually been any good. But I liked it.

I loved the original when I was a kid, but wow, it really does not hold up well to watching it today. I’ll definitely check out the new series out of nostalgia though.

we used to play “V” all the time in the neighborhood. We even tried to made our own red dust by stealing flour from our mothers’ kitchens and adding in cinnamon. That was a disaster.

Actually, wasn’t “V” what the rebels would paint, for “victory”? Obviously, there’s a bit of a double meaning, but the spray painted “V” didn’t stand for visitors (what the aliens called themselves).

I was trying not to spoil things!

Y’all suck and I hate you.

What did you expect? Be happy we haven’t started talking about Nazis.

Well the alien resistance was the Fifth Column, so the V could’ve been the number 5…

Well the aliens were here to take all of the women, therefore V must stand for…

Two years ago my then-girlfriend made me watch it for the first time. I liked it!

The way the first miniseries builds up tension and sets up a cool environment before turning into a ridiculous videogame reminds me of District 9. Well, the other way round, I guess.

I’ll watch the new series, sure.

Hey Scrax, what did you mean by the title of the thread? Where are the big eyed women?

All I know is that I hope the crazy chick from Lost (the mother of the rebellious motorcycle-riding fist-fighting high school kid) dies early on in the show. She can’t seem to emote anything other than “I’ve got a creepy secret” facial expressions.

The only thing I’m worried about with this is the fact they’ve stated its not a mini-series and they don’t have a plan for a fixed number of seasons. V is going to start well enough, but if it survives to a second season, I predict it will descend quickly into “what kooky plan have the aliens/resistance cooked up this week? Tune in and see!!” and suck unless the writers know where they are going and how its going to end…

The original two mini-series work precisely because they are mini-series.
