Voltron

God help me, I got chills reading that.

I am such a geek. An old one.

A little day brightener for you:

The forming Voltron mp3 must be from an early episode, since they don’t have the full routine down yet (and they even say “Go Lion!” at the end). The opening is off in the mix, so I expect it’s also from the early shows, but that’s the cleanest version of the opening theme I’ve ever heard online.

Yeah, it’s from episode 4. Let me see if they’ve got it down by episode 10.

Okay, here’s the full forming sequence. Even got the “Form blazing sword!” bit.

I only have the Voltron episodes up to 10 right now, so no idea if the intro changed after that, but it remains constant up until 10.

Heh - I’m 41. I used to watch this show with my roomates back in the mid-80’s when I was stationed down in Va Beach. I still work with one of those guys and I’m gonna blow his mind next week when he gets back off travel thanks to the Dr’s MP3 files.

Voltron was a fixture with my roomies and I in university. We watched plenty of bad programming and enjoyed it.

G-Force
Transformers
Thundercats
Blackstar
20 Minute Workout

Someone please give those chaps a good meal.

Not great quality, but this is the opening as played throughout most of the show’s syndication. No idea when they changed it from the version Crypt posted.

Matt, that opening actually premieres in Episode 4, but then they stop using it at least up until episode 10. Only difference I can hear is that stupid synthesizer “Voltron Defender of the Universe” thing at the end. Is there anything else?

Ahem. You could blow his mind with more than that.

What, no Silverhawks?

Well, we did have to at least pretend to study!

There’s echo on the narrator’s (Peter Cullen, better known as Optimus Prime) voice, the sound effects are less prominent in the mix, and the music is louder. It’s real subtle and kinda nitpicky, but it’s noticeable to someone who watched the show daily and has the audio burned into his brain. I also want to say the vehicle Voltron opening was slightly different, but I don’t remember that series nearly as well.

G-Force film. That’s what I want. Anybody have that theme handy?

Until I heard that intro again, I never realized how much the intro to Hercules sounds like it. Very similar approach and feel.

Don’t know about the robot design, seems to be inspired by the Bay Transformers.

As a side note, it’s weird when I go searching to see if there’s a thread only to find I started one 5 years ago.

The shot of the Red Lion facing off against the ro-beast is pretty cool, but holy crap that Voltron design blows. More blocked-off edges and a little personality, please. I don’t mind the Bay-ish design on the lions themselves, but they should tighten up the junkyard art aspect when they form Voltron.

Looks like some exec said “We want it to look like the Transformer things all the kids like now.” The robeast even looks like Megatron in the head area.

Also looks like someone showed said exec Stealth Voltron from that horrible CG series they did in the late '90s.

Wake me up when the Go-Bots movie is in production.
