Interesting. However, I did note that he said he had to kick detail way down just to maintain 60 fps in DCS with an RTX 2080Ti. Now, the VR performance improvement is coming for DCS, but I noticed in today’s update that the improvements will be initially in the Caucasius and Persian Gulf maps, which is interesting as I expected them to be sim-wide. I sure hope they don’t slack in updating Normandy and Nevada. But I don’t want to sacrifice frame rates for incremental detail.

I had one of these on order but cancelled as I’m going to wait to hear the reaction once they’re in the hands of sim players.

I envisage your home as being basically wall to wall headsets.

Hah. I sold my Dell WMR headset, so I just have the Rift S and my original Rift (for multiplayer flight simming with the kid). My dad has the Oculus Go, which is why I have experience there.

Still no large headed early adopters to give impressions of the rift s?

What I’ve been able to google up does not bode well for my 72 IPD. It sounds like eye strain will make long gaming sessions impossible.

72 is the max value for the software IPD setting in the S. Unsure if this actually helps, since it’s not moving the lenses - so you may be outside the ‘sweet spot’ making the image blurry.

If you can deal with the hassle, you could get one from a local store and return it if it doesn’t fit your eyes properly. Or try a demo model.

I’m really close to buying the monstertech mounts, but I am having trouble deciding if I should do the chair mounts, or the table mounts.

Anyone else here having fun with the Quest? I picked up Vader Immortal, Beatsaber, and Superhot, and all of them have been amazing experiences. Debating whether to pick up Moss or Journey of the Gods next. Its amazing how slick the overall package is, it feels like it was designed by Apple (maybe even better in some ways!). I can’t wait until we get more games specifically designed for it.

Did anyone get the 128GB Quest? Or is the 64 sufficient? I’m guessing it doesn’t have an SD slot!

I got the 128 GB model, though it seems like 64 is plenty.

I have the 64 and a bunch of games and am using less than half of capacity.

You can’t add an SD Card for core memory, but you can attach a USB stick with videos on it (or just stream directly from a media server.)

Just got my Rift S today and here are my first impressions:

#1 Everything looks WAY better. Like VR should be. I don’t know why, but on my original rift things were a bit blurry (yes my ipd was set). I am near-sighted and don’t wear glasses in the headset. I haven’t even adjusted my IPD yet! I don’t have to constantly adjust the rift to get the ‘sweet spot’ anymore.

#2 (Most important to me) Headset feels much more comfortable. There’s a button you can push to slide the front forward, which takes a lot of pressure off your face, and I really like how the ring Strap thing tightens in the back and just how it works in general. This is HUGE for me because I couldn’t stand how the original rift felt on my face.

#3 Really quick and painless setup. The pass-through mode where you see the real world around you is actually pretty cool. Being able to paint your guardian boundry by just aiming your controller and drawing a square around your floor is much more convenient than having to physically walk around the room with the controllers.

Very happy about this purchase.

So I’m thinking about picking up either a Quest or Rift S today but I’m torn between them. I’ve had a Rift since release and enjoyed it off and on but it’s never been a major part of my gaming time. The Rift S sounds like a really great upgrade to what I currently have but it still has a tether. The wires (and setup time) of my Rift is one of the main reasons I don’t use it that often. The freedom offered by the Quest sounds amazing and much closer to the original promise of VR but I’m a little concerned about the relatively low power of the system compared to the Rift S. Will we see a much more powerful and capable Quest 2 in a year?

Does anyone here have both of these systems? For reference I don’t really play many sims in the Rift, I’ve enjoyed things like Beat Saber and Superhot VR more.

One thing I actually like about the Rift S is actually the audio, for the specific reason that I don’t like voice chatting when I can’t hear myself very well, but the Rift S doesn’t have a speaker right up to your ear that makes it harder to hear yourself.

I hate voice chatting with earbuds or a headset as well unless my voice is being piped in at the same time but even that is a bit awkward.

Although the Rift S does have a tether, it is a lot better than the original rift. For one, the cable is longer. Secondly, you can face away from your computer and then the cable will be behind you and not really in your way like the rift cable was.

Oh it’s longer? I didn’t know that. I guess that does make it a little better but whenever I’m playing a game like Superhot or Robo Recall I’m keenly aware that I’m tethered to an expensive PC and because of that I’m nervous about getting tangled up or twisted in the cable.

Technically the Rift S has ZERO power. ;)

I have an S and am close to getting a Quest as well, just for the freedom. Won’t be soon enough to help you if you’re buying today! If you can find one today, I think they’re selling out with more on the way soon.

The library of good games seems slim atm though so good thing you like Beat Saber & Superhot.

There’s some Robo Recall Rift v Quest footage here

I have the Quest 64 and it’s half full with 15+ apps and games installed. Seems good enough for me.

I am truly digging it. Wireless and full presence inducing? SOLD.

I just wish they would solve real locomotion, not the stupid teleportation. But that’s across all helmets mostly.

Ha yeah availability is an issue. I was close to pulling the trigger today but they are sold out everywhere. So we’ll see if my impulsiveness holds until they get back in stock. Most of the games I already (Beat saber, Superhot) kind of annoying that I would have to buy those games again.

Can always get one straight from Oculus. Like I just did. Dispatches within 3 days. :)

Yeah that’s an option but then I have to wait, and my enthusiasm might cool:)
