Anyone playing Pistol Whip yet? I hear it’s a good leg workout.

Sounds like a great thing to go with Thrill of the Fight - been playing it on the Quest and my arms are about ready to drop off. Great game!

It doesn’t surprise me, though I can understand being disappointed (at least until the Link comes out). It’s a different, much less powerful processor architecture. Not to mention the differences in the VR-specific aspects. Ports aren’t going to be straightforward. It’s the main reason I didn’t buy a Quest, as I figured the native library would be pretty limited, both in scope and number.

I’ve played a decent amount of Pistol Whip. It’s really fun and surprisingly challenging. It’s definitely a workout, but not nearly as much as Thrill of the Fight. It’s kind of like a combination of Superhot and Beat Saber.

I’m thinking of picking it up. How is the replayability with 10 levels/songs?
And how does it run? I read something about bugs and poor performance on the Quest.

The replayability is alright, though I wish the environments for each song were unique. The songs seem to be pretty good, though nothing spectacular (like Beat Saber). The best part of the game is getting into the flow state after playing for a while. I think it feels more satisfying than Beat Saber, especially once you start shooting with the rhythm.

I like the game. I wish the leaderboards worked better though. They don’t update after you play a song. You have to exit the song, then go back to it. The interface is a little clunky. I expect they’ll fix this, but we’ll see.

I’m playing on the Quest and haven’t had any issues.

I had that happen to me on my first. I ended up returning it to Amazon and going that route (as it showed up within the first week)

If you still have it… remember to detach/uninstall the Oculus Quest from your app otherwise you’ll see your old Quest still showing up in the app… (currently there is no way to remove a Quest from the app, if the Quest in question is no longer owned)

I sent my whole unit in and Oculus sent me a quick brand new replacement. No muss no fuss.

Do you still see that old model on your Oculus App? Or did they tell you to remove it before you sent it in.

The old Quest still shows up on the app, but I just checked and nothing from Oculus support told me to remove it. They asked me to try to factory reset the old unit and that’s it.

So Carmack is moving on to focus on general ai, while still consulting with Oculus.

So what does this imply? That he’s done all he can do with VR?

So Pistol Whip:

Works great for the Quest and is alot of fun. There are a couple of issues: you can’t save gun customizations (you have to enable permissions outside the app–devs will fix this with the first update sometime soon) and scores/leaderboards don’t always show up correctly (fix incoming.)

The game basically has you shoot dudes and dodge bullets in time to music, which makes for some pretty great flow. You get points for the accuracy of your shots both in time (on the beat) and in space (near the target.) You can follow up an on-the-beat shot with one or more rapid fire shots, allowing you to take out enemies that require 2 or 4 shots and create rhythms with syncopation and 16th notes.

Speaking of shooting dudes and dodging, I tried out a free game via Sidequest called CrisisVR I think. A neat little take on cleaning up a bank robbery. You start in the street with some fellow officers and have to shoot your in past the baddies.

Haven’t tried Pistol Whip yet but will check it out sometime soon probably.

It implies he is interested in doing new stuff.

Half-life 3 confirmed.

I’ve been digging into my PSVR finally after having it for a few months, and I’m pretty underwhelmed. Even with a PS4 Pro, things don’t look that great. I know it’s resolution-limited, but I at least expected better textures or draw distance or something.

Besides that, I think my biggest problem is that I’m just replaying games I’ve already put a lot of time into- Skyrim, No Man’s Sky, Rez. I just don’t feel like they gain a lot in VR, but this is totally on me- I think I need to try more ‘new’ experiences.

I did try a bunch of demos, but none really grabbed me. Concrete Genie looked interesting, but apparently the VR mode for that has little to do with the actual game. I’ll probably pick up Megaton Rainfall, as the idea of a superman simulator, however janky, appeals to me.

Then this popped up in my Google feed this morning–a game called Golem. Apparently, it was announced years ago, then disappeared, and now is finally being released. The only thing that gives me pause is the permadeath thing, and I know going in that means it’s highly unlikely I’ll ever finish it (Dead Cells, Below, etc. say hi). But exploring a handcrafted little world for a while sounds neat.

Anybody played Stormland yet? From the reviews, I suspect I’ll fall off the endgame pretty quickly, but the core gameplay sounds good.

No, I was hoping someone had though! I was pretty close to buying it but decided to wait a bit. Content sounds kind of bare-bones.

It’s a shame Stormland is another short VR game, because it was hyped as a big open world game. I’ve been enjoying Borderlands 2 VR for the past few weeks, so I think I’ll skip Stormland and wait for a deep sale.
