Now I both want to and don’t want to know what SLR stands for.

Super Lovey Robot.
You’ll need a breast pump or low powered vacuum (a 2011-2012 pet vac from Dyson should work) for max realism though.

Not gonna lie, I laughed out loud.
Also I have to admit that I do not know if that is a joke or not.

Ok ok, it stands for Sex Like Real. I believe the Real part is because it’s ridiculously good resolution compared to anything I’ve watched in Netflix or Youtube on VR.
I appreciate the answers! :)
I miss the slimes too.
Wow, $30/month. My wife and I agonized over the decision but ended up subscribing to Disney+ instead.
Oculus Link may get better down the track, with USB3.1 cable support:
Also if I interpret this right, seems like it is currently encoding at a lower resolution than it will be in the future:

Yeah, that’s promising.
Some notes after playing some hours with the Quest:
-It’s really important how the device rest on your face and how it’s adjusted to your head, as it affects both comfort and potentially visual clarity.
-I wish the battery would be longer. Not like “I wish it would be twice as long!”, I know that cannot be done easily, but I wish it was at least 20% longer. Sometimes I think “is it already this low!?”
-The controls are a bit small for my big hands. To hold them firmly without pressing any trigger or button by mistake can be a bit complicated sometimes.
-Related to that, sometimes I press the Oculus button by mistake. I know there is an option to having to hold it to activate the Oculus menu, but in that case you lose the functionality of ‘holding to reset view’ which is very useful.
-Speaking of the Touch controls, it was weird at first that the primary interaction mechanism, grabbing/holding something is done with middle finger, not with what I would say is the ‘main’ interaction finger IRL life, the index.
-The guardian system works without problems… except once yesterday night, it didn’t want to recognize my space despite being the same as always and it had enough light, I had to restart the Quest.
-I don’t know how the hell there is no button to activate the pass-through cameras!
Apps:
-The first thing I noticed it’s the clusterfuck there is between Oculus Video, Oculus tv, Oculus Venue, Facebook Live, and more video apps. I wish there was more consolidation, they all do the same at the end of the day. I wish there was a least categories to order/filter the apps, and put video apps in one part, docs/‘experiences’ in another, etc
-Beat saber is very cool, of course.
-Moss is also cool, in a very different way. Looking a very nicely animated mouse in front of you is surreal.
-I tried a bit of ‘normal’ locomotion for a few minutes of Rec Room paintball and in the Journey of the Gods demo, and while it felt somewhat weird and disorienting, I wasn’t puking immediately my intestines, so I think with a period of acclimation it should be fine for me.
-Pistol Whip made me remember in how out of shape I am. I’m not fat (technically overweight by 3kg per BMI), but yeah, totally out of shape… in a way I convinced myself to buy the Quest to improve that.
-Finally, with Ultrawings I really felt uncomfortable the moment I did a not-that-smooth stick movement without the ‘blinders’ option. It left me conflicted, I love flying in game and in VR is obviously even more cool, but it seems for this I’m going to have to ‘train’ more.

You really oughta try a ‘real’ flightsim with VR. Il2 great battles, dcs (free!) or any other vr compatible sim should do. Its awesome. Also, as its a sitting experience where a large bit of scenery is static (the plane you’re in), its pretty good when it comes to vr sickness.
Unless you hop into a sopwith camel, get your upper left wing shot off and auger in, that will give you goddamn PTSD!

I’d say ignore all of those and just use Youtube VR. Oculus Venue seems neat (I would’ve liked to watch Hassan Minaj perform last week), but it requires a Facebook login and I’m not doing that.
Be sure to download Firefox Reality and check that out. It’s a browser designed for VR and has links to a bunch of free webVR experiences, some of which are pretty cool.
Once you’re skilled enough to play Expert on Beat Saber, it’s quite a bit more workout than Pistol Whip:) I hear that the boxing games are even more strenuous.

I haven’t played Pistol Whip. but I can confirm that Beat Saber can be a hell of a workout. I do about a half hour of aerobic activity every day, and occasionally throw some Beat Saber into the mix, and it still has me sweating after a half hour.
Word of warning though; I totally wrecked my right shoulder from too much Beat Saber and had to stop playing for a several weeks while it healed. Like, near tears pain. Googling for “shoulder injuries and Beat Saber” reveals that I’m not the only one. I’m 48 years old and and need to remember that I’m not invulnerable anymore. :/
If you want to spend a bit more money, try a set of grips. I have these:
They make the controls chunkier for bigger hands and keep the battery door in place when playing games like Beat Saber. The straps will let you open your hands without dropping the controls, but you can leave them off.
The annoying thing about them though is the controllers no longer fit in the official case with them on.
You can get a battery and carry it on your person, plug it into the Quest. Some people attach it to the back strap as a counterweight.
Lol I don’t think I’ve even used any of those! :D I’ve used Youtube a bit.
Is it much better than the built-in VR browser?
Hell yeah, try going three three minute rounds in Thrill of the Fight!

This is coming soon according to Oculus.

I’ve tried this a couple times and it just seems like a ridiculously frantic game of ‘how fast can you flail your arms?’ Does it get more strategic than that at all?
You can probably beat the first couple guys by flailing wildly, especially since the early fights are short.
Unless you can keep that pace up for a long time and protect yourself, you’ll get creamed by the later opponents in longer fights.
I tend to play it by boxing, not flailing. I don’t know how far you got, but the first guy that gave me a bit of trouble was ‘Spider’, due to his height and long reach.
You can also set the difficulty up and go 12 rounds if you want, see how far flailing gets you there! :)
Quake 2 beta with full 6 DoF arrives on the Quest tomorrow, get it via SideQuest.

Why crosspost in the VR thread? Two Steam controller receivers are required if you want to use Index controllers with a non-Index headset.
