Finally got to check this out. I had to uninstall/re-install the game. It didn’t autoupdate even after sitting all day.
Green Day tracks seem cool and interesting. Green/blue color scheme is part of the challenge.
360 tracks are kind of underwhelming. They’ve done a great job with the interface and hinting where to turn using walls and etc, but the turning movement is slow enough that you lose the dancing/flow feel you have when you’re standing in one place. A few times it clicked, but most of the time it just felt like playing normally, but turning slightly every couple of seconds. Part of that may be just me getting used to it–the tracks are slightly more difficult to read, especially when two streams are crossing. The 90 degree tracks may actually be more interesting because they facilitate the crossing and wide swings.
Ultrawings devs posted a screen from their new game. Apparently it will have proper HOTAS support (with button mapping), and will be on Quest as well:
Vacation Simulator is much better than Job Simulator. Still, I would say 30€ is asking too much for it, but it will be a nice buy at 20€. JS was just a proof of concept of setting + interaction system. Vacation Simulator takes that and makes something closer to a game. In this case, a collecthaton/achievement hunting game, but one where it’s fun to collect them. You do activities like skill minigames, puzzles, photos, painting, etc and it’s all well integrated with exploration and some amusing humor. The locales are varied and pleasant to see and there is a ton of interactive shit, videogames you find for your console, customization options, etc.

They do get better once you get the groove, and especially at the harder difficulties, but I still stand by my impression that the 90° charts are probably better.
How many of these tracks does the base game get? Or are they an expansion thing?

The good part is that in the next days the custom songs will start appearing using these new modes, too.

Going to try this out later
UPDATE: Tried it out, and it’s pretty amazing, especially for a side project. One issue I had was there was not a way to recenter the view, so I was alittle lower in the seat than would be optimal.

A small guide to customize the resolution in Oculus Link
Star Trek bridge crew is surprisingly out on the oculus quest today, and still has the great watson voice commands which are essential for single player.

Oculus finally put a switch in to turn off autoload for their bullshit home thing. Now another release to have just the driver load and not the bullshit storefront and I might stop hating it as much as I do.

For anyone interested in Star Trek Bridge Crew for Quest. I just went through it and picked it up for $10.74 with tax. Note you have to buy the base game and the dlc to get it free on quest.

Nice tip. Thanks! I just got it for the same amount.
- Go to the Ubisoft store and add Bridge Crew and the TNG DLC at the sale price to your cart. You have to select VR-Oculus for Bridge Crew and VR-Oculus+Extension for TNG.
- Use the promo code “EXTRA20” at checkout.
- You’ll get activation codes in your email.
- Redeem both codes at the Oculus site. (Pull down menu under your avatar->My Orders->Redeem Code.)
- Go to the Quest app store on the Oculus site and Bridge Crew should be listed with a price of “Free”. Buy it.
Nice, even cheaper here in Au for some reason! Came to around 10 of our local low value dollarinos.
Yeah thanks for the tip guys, I wanted that anyways.
Beat Saber scoring - is it really tied to taking huge swings across the blocks? No wonder it causes shoulder injuries.
I turned on advanced scoring and it’s like, hey you nailed it, 0 misses, 0 bad cuts! Score: C. Fuuuuuck that.
Also, making the songs much harder only at the end is a very, very stupid design decision. It means playing 2:30 minutes of a song, then seeing the new part and failing after 10 seconds, then repeat the entire 2:40 a few times, then start failing from 2:40 to 2:50, then repeat a few times. Is there some way to skip into a song to practice?
I think I made a huge mistake starting with the campaign.
Yeah, swing angle/distance counts as does how close to the center of a block you cut.
Yes, use the practice mode (the Mortar Board icon)! :)
You can start anywhere and slow songs down.
Yeah that’s what I thought. I guess I’ll just hand the game over to my kids then, because I’m not getting injured because a game has decided wildly swinging my arms should be tied to scoring. :(
