Yesterday I ended up fighting three albatrosses in my sopwith camel over the eastern part of no man’s land. They took turns chewing me up. I shot down one, but ran out of ammo, airspeed, altitude and ideas. Running home with them nipping on my tails was scary.
Auguring in when my upper left wing spar cracked was beyond scary. I screamed.
Yeah there are no good horror experiences in VR.

I just tried Vox Machinae and despite me not being a big mech fan, I have to admit it was cool as hell. It looks pretty nice (once you put enough SS and tessellation), and they implemented the feeling of being in a giant mech very well, with things physical controls that feel very analogue, aiming with the scope being done with another ‘physical’ screen that moves to the front, or smart details like the jump jets triggering by pulling a button/lever, instead of pushing it.
The servers were totally dead, lol. I found that bots would play a TDM, but not in a more complex game mode (I can’t remember the name, something about gathering scrap?) .
Also, have anyone played Airborn?
I remember playing a Vox Machinae demo on the DK2, this would have been 2015, maybe 2016. And it’s still in early access! :)
It was cool though, and they must have added so much since then. I have it wishlisted for when it’s done.
With Airborn, I saw ‘very small, wave based shooter’ and interest waned…
News about VR support in Flight Simulator.
However, journalists are saying it will be an exclusive to the Reberb G2 for a time? Uhh?
Ars quote imply they have asked about it directly to the devs, they aren’t making it up for clicks
I suppose it might make support/bugfixing easier while they figure out the implementation. Seems suspicious they wouldn’t just say so, though.
If that new Reverb is the new hotness it’s a shame it’s still wired. Wireless seems like a big step forward.
Hopefully it justifies it with a rocking image.
I have my Rift packed away ready for ebay. Was planning on buying back in once lighter and faster options emerged.
For seated VR, such as a flight simulator, a wire is no problem at all. Better resolution is worth almost anything to a flightsimmer.
Yesterday I fooled a bit with Angry Birds VR, as in the last months they had introduced an update with online level sharing. Alas, it’s a pity that the discoverability options aren’t enough (you can sort by difficulty and by ‘hotness’ but you can’t combine both as filters) and more importantly, the player made levels don’t have the score/star rating system, which makes them much less interesting. I don’t know why, it should have been so easy to do it, just give the players a way to put 3 numbers (the score values to get 1, 2 and 3 stars).
Onward release trailer (Quest version)
Totally agreed with the caveat that the first Reverb had such a honking wire, it even bugged some in the sim crowd. The second one is supposed to fix that though and I’m greatly looking forward to hearing reports.
I’m being very careful with my VR dollar as we seem to be in heavy improvement territory with a 12 month cycle.
Yup, it is indeed giant stompy mech greatness. There is a pretty active community that arranges team games on Discord too.
Bots are decent and you can use them to play and practice all the game modes. Team deathmatch, capture the flag, convoy defence, fixed point capture, spawning node capture.

I definitely need to jump back into Vox Machinae and give it some more time. Is there actually a 3rd person, out of mech view in the game or did I just experience a weird glitch when it happened last time I played? I hope it’s an actual part of the game as it was really cool seeing the battlefield from a free camera standpoint.
Listening to the community has been a priority for the development team since the announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator in June 2019. Two of the most requested features we’ve been hearing about from the Community are TrackIR and VR support. Today we are excited to announce that Microsoft Flight Simulator will have TrackIR support available on day one, and VR support will be available later this year in time for the launch of the HP Reverb G2!
Great, because the community was just screaming out for a headset timed exclusive…
I see Steam has Skyrim VR on sale for $17.99, and I’m looking for a new VR game. Has anyone here played it, and is it worth it, or would I be better off just re-installing Skyrim SE instead?
For reference, I love me some No Man’s Sky, so I assumed I would love NMS VR. Turns out I didn’t, and prefer to play it in regular reality. NMS VR was free (thanks Hello Games!) so before I drop $18 bucks on this one I figured I’d ask the QT3 VR hive mind.

I thought it was pretty cool to see Skyrim in VR. The start of the game where you ride as a prisoner to the tower and the dragon shows up and stuff? Really cool comparing how immersive it is in VR instead of 2D space.
It’s not the best port, though, which means it’s a bit of a suboptimal VR experience (at least from what I recall, but it’s been quite a while). I know there are mods out there to address some of the issues.
It is a bit clunky, but is pretty awesome if you can get past that.
Fallout 4 in VR is similar FWIW. EXCELLENT atmosphere and awesome to “see” it through your own eyes. But you can also super tell that the VR mechanics were kind of haphazardly bolted on afterwards & the controls are clunky.

Thanks for the feedback, gang, and I think I’m gonna take a pass. I don’t seem to enjoy games that have been ported to VR, and prefer games that were specifically designed with VR in mind.
Sounds like it would be great to visit Skyrim in VR, but you wouldn’t wanna live there…

If you’re willing to put in 10 or so hours into modding Skyrim VR using a guide, then it looks amazing and interacting in the world is no harder for me than most of the native VR games I have played (I haven’t played Alyx though). My problem was that I just didn’t want to play Skyrim again.
I recall Skyrim VR was created using an older version of the game and isn’t compatible with all the mods available?
