I finished Trover saves the Universe. I liked it better than Accounting+, although still, it’s too much Justin Roiland without anyone checking on him or countering him, so an endless stream of profanity, bizarre situations, poop jokes, sex jokes (usually gay sex), some edgy jokes about racism and diversity, and meta stuff. I wish his games were more… well, more like Rick and Morty, where there are some of that type of stuff but better balanced with a bit smarter humor and a modicum of storylines that makes sense.
The combat was very mediocre, with an infuriating roll that wouldn’t work sometimes, but well, I suppose the combat isn’t the star of the show here. In fact sometimes it felt like filler. The ending was pretty good, with you unexpectedly using Trover’s corpse to kill the final boss, and the bizarre heaven as epilogue/credits.
HP Reverb G2 is up for pre-order here in Australia next week, Wednesday the 16th at 12pm. Priced at $1099 AUD.
Stock is estimated to arrive in the country ‘from mid-November’…
ooh its NZ$1,099 here…a bargain!!
But our shipments have been pushed out to Oct 15
GBP 539 in the UK. With all the other tech purchases I “need” to make in the next year, I think I’ll hold off at least until I’ve replaced my desktop. But looking forward to reviews and impressions.

I tried today Stride and I was impressed. Right now it’s in EA so it only has endless mode, but the important thing is that the core mechanics are super solid. Running, vaulting, wall running, sliding, firing, and avoiding enemy snipers, using the hook, sliding down a rope… it was all easy to understand, easy to execute individually and fun. The challenge of course will be in chaining everything without losing momentum and on the the first try. The only iffy thing was how to jump. Well, it was easy as the rest but you will need a bit of practice until the memory muscle kicks in.
It’s also a physical exercise type of game, between moving the arms up and down to run, jumping, crouching for the slide, doing side movements to avoid snipers, etc, you will get sweating after a while.
Oh yeah before I forget. One month ago or so I wrote some impression of Swarm beta. One of my problems then was the difficulty, but the dev has implemented easy/normal/hard modes since then.

A new Ubi VR game! and it looks interesting
Who makes a trailer for a VR game that involves no head movement whatsoever? Why is this game in VR? I have no idea, trailer maker.
This would be a lot sooner than I expected.

God Damn the Quest 2 is a monster. 2k per eye display and an Qualcomm XR2 processor (865 based). For $300 dollars?!?
Hells yeah! I’ll be in line. But I didn’t see any price announced yet?
A video was leaked on Facebook Blueprint, it’s since been taken down. For those wanting to see for themselves, there’s currently a copy on Youtube here:

BRB selling my Quest before the price craters.
The XR2 is estimated to have twice the cpu and gpu power of the 835 used in the original Quest.
More interestingly, I read it has ten times the AI processing power, which makes sense given all that AI stuff Facebook was showing recently with avatar face animations.
Also I imagine hand tracking (and tracking in general) could be much improved with this extra power too!
And is 2K per eye the same res as the G2…?

It’s very close to the G2, no exact resolution listed.
Hmm now what does that mean for the G2 pre-orders opening here in two days? Ack! :D
I guess Quest 2 will still use OLED, and the LCD subpixel on G2 will mean a sharper image there. But it’s just a guess… Dilemmas.
This seems to be a timely article btw! :)

Well the G2 won’t have video compression. And any GPU is going to take a hit sending out low latency 4k video for the link.
Also super sampling in general doesn’t work nearly as well over link compared to a real video connector.
Also I bet the two 2k screens in the G2 look better than the 4k split in half of the Quest 2.
But it’s hard to argue with the Quest 2 value!
I’m happy to wait for full reviews of both but the leaks make it sound like it’s going to be hard to dump Facebook.

Fuck facebook and the horse it rode in on. Between what they have (not) done in the socio-political landscape and their godawful big brother like data hunger, no way will I ever do business with them again.
Is it really going to be $300? I’d take this over a new Playstation or Xbox. I know the latter two will have better games, but I’d like to play some VR games.
In the next 12 months? Probably not.
