Thanks guys for all the helpful info!

As for the Link cable - does it matter if its the ocolus official one, or just a normal USB cable? And should it be C to C?
edit: well, after reading the ocolus site, I ended up getting this A to C cable. Should hopefully work!

It works with any cable, but obviously it’s better with a solid usb3 cable, not a $5 Chinese one. If the A to C adapter is good, it’s should work.

edit: a 4.6m usb cable is on the verge of the limits of usb, I think. If you see it fails sometimes, it could be that. People use usb “active” extension cables because of that.

Why is the excellent VTOL VR not mentioned in any of those essential games lists?

You can use any old cable for that though.

You also see cables with ‘pull-up resistor’ recommended.

There’s also a ‘install PC drivers’ step in here. :)

I never really got into it! Maybe I need to try it again. :)

Well, my list was Quest only. For pc, there are other titles to recommend yeah, like Lone Echo. I still haven’t played Vtol VR.

I actually think that’s not needed, Sidequest has its own system.

Really? It’s still listed on their website as a step.

They raved about it the latest Waypoint Radio podcast. Not in VR specifically but about the game design. It uses location based chat, and a in game radio, and the ghosts can listen to both and react to what you say.

I normally don’t enjoy horror games but I think a coop game would be great.

A cool idea, but I saw a negative Steam review specifically for VR and it wasn’t so good.

I know, Steam reviews… there are probably counterpoints but I don’t think you can search reviews for terms like ‘VR’, and this was on the first page.

Plus, it’s early access with limited content. I’d wait until it releases (and risk missing it while it’s in the public eye lol).

An interesting discussion point on the podcast was how the jank and bugs of an early access title works to a horror games benefit. The general sense of things not being figured out, “Are you sure that’s a bug or maybe we just don’t understand that ghost type like we thought we did.”

Haha yeah… I’m not sure I agree with that. ;)

I’m not sure obvious graphical errors and re-used assets would add to my enjoyment, horror game or not.

I’m good at those kinds of rationalizations after I make a purchase, but jank sure ain’t gonna sell me on anything ahead of time. :)

Thanks for the input, y’all!

I’m sure everybody here has exemplary Facebook etiquette, but just in case:

Q: Any word on people getting their Facebook accounts banned, making Oculus Quest useless?:
A: Be good, or else.

Technically you can use another account that isn’t banned (your SO?), I guess.

Are ‘second’ FB accounts hard to set up?

Oh dear oh dear, have you been a naughty boy Alistair? ;)

There was a reason I was suggesting using another person’s account lol.
FB account have to use real names and they can ask you for you real ID as evidence you are who you say.

Not yet!

Judging by the number of porn stars and middle eastern gentlemen who send me friend requests, I’m going to guess this is more of a suggestion than a rule.

Well, that and I actually have a fake Facebook account that I set up years ago with a somewhat obviously fake name.

Kind of glad I didn’t pull the trigger this week. They clearly have issues to work through. Not sure whether Facebook is going to be able to transition to being a company that does “customer service.”

Picked up the Elite Strap. As mentioned above, this feels pretty much necessary. The base strap just sucks.

I also installed sidequest. If you can, check out TraVRsal. Is basically a demo of being able freely roam around an area as environment builds itself around your guardian space. I drew a fairly large guardian space in my garage and explored a spooky pyramid that appeared to go on and on. It’s not perfect, but a good first step (pun intended).

Also Ancient Dungeon is neat.
