Got the costco bundle, so strap and fit pack. Even as a vr cynic, this is a super nice device.
Ordered a second one so I don’t have to share.
Wireless streaming with sidequest is almost perfect. Need to get a ubiquiti wifi 6 ap to see if i can get it to be my go to.
Anker/USB Extender for link cable works great with iracing too. Like 30 bucks for a 15 foot cable.
Downsides - Foam pad gave my wife a weird allergic reaction, so I had to order vrcovers. Battery life isn’t great. I need more games. Headphones are meh.
And although I find bigscreen to be suuuuper creepy with the uncurated rooms, as a video player it’s really good. I just killed the battery watching bladerunner off of my plex server.
What I don’t like from Quest 2 is the black levels, and what I hope they improve in the next version is the battery and the fov.
I didn’t think the black levels were going to bother me after watching some comparisons in Youtube, but in person with the black (or should I say, grey) surrounding all I could see it has a stronger effect.
Battery, imo a device like this should reach around 3.5 hours, so you can do two to three sessions, having to charge every time gets old and limiting. And fov, that should be the next big effort. They have reached an alright level of resolution now, their next big thing should be a new design that allows for 30-40º horizontal fov, so we can say goodbye to the feeling of having blinders.
Looks a lot like Tea for God, also on SideQuest.
This got resolved. Doesn’t change the rest of the stuff that raging Extremetech guy is upset by though I guess. :)
I think it was an issue with the machine learning algorithm designed to combat the creation of fake accounts.
UploadVR has a bit more of an apologist stance, citing extreme pressure to curb election fraud:

Suggestions for a good replacement cover? I can’t say I’m a huge fan of that foam material either.
VR Cover.
You can get them through oculus. 29 each. https://www.oculus.com/accessories/vr-cover-facial-interface-foam-replacement-set/
Apparently that rash is not uncommon. My wife’s face swelled up and it hurts now. So it’s definitely more than the classic red marks the other headsets leaves on your face.
Methinks they have something wonky with the foam.
I filed a support request because that’s what the response has been on reddit. Curious if it happens with the fit pack gaskets that this bundle came with. I cannot imagine my wife is keen to test that out though.

I actually like the basic Q2 head strap. I have it on pretty loose and the Q2 fits and stays on my head/face very nicely…and it’s so much more comfy than the base Q1 strap. Had it somewhat snug and my head hurt after 5-10 minutes but just loosen it up and it’s nice and quick to put on and have no issues…played Saints and Sinners for 30 minutes and Onward for an hour and it stayed in place and was perfect for me. Seems I’m one of the only ones who likes it but I’m easy.
My kids face gets pretty red where the headstet hits his forehead…think he has it on too tight but he says no…looks rash ish.

I deactivated my facebook account a few weeks ago and there is zero chance that I’ll ever reactivate it. So no Quest 2 for me either. I love(d) my Quest 1. But c’est la vie.
Facebook would be smart to just shutter its social network and silo off Oculus and WhatsApp and whatever other actually useful services it has into separate business arms that aren’t tainted by the association. But instead they’re gonna try to drag the whole mess down.
Are they really dragging the whole mess down though?
No sales figures but I’ve seen devs saying things are going ok:
Whatsapp is a social network app…
Elite Strap status in Amazon Europe: mine finally shipped. And I’m pretty sure it’s coming from outside my country, because it says it will come on Friday, despite me having Prime, that’s not the normal shipping time.

Nice - the only places here in Denmark that have them, doesn’t have them until 3rd of November.

So, a quick question since I see that my Ocolus that arrived today (YAY!!!) gets drained of power quickly - Does it recharge through an USB 3 connected to the PC for Ocolus Link playing?
Also - WHAT A RUSH! Its pretty damn amazing. The app “First steps” is simply brilliant, and a great way to get into the game. I tried out a few videos as well, and wow - There’s a dance video where people are uncomfortably close to you - so real! Oh - interestingly, those few videos I’ve seen, people seem slightly smaller than in real life.
Anyways - currently downloading quite a few new games and want to try out some of them tonight.

WhatsApp is a messaging app. Facebook is a social media platform. It’s the difference between a telephone and a convention center.

Oculus can F right off with their facebook overlords. Nope. No thanks. I don’t care if the hardware is good. Not from them.
Is there anyone that is looking to come out with a decently priced mobile VR anytime in the future? Unfortunately, it feels like Facebook has a moat built up due to the oculus platform.
I’d actually be happy with wireless PC VR but not for $800+.
Grats!
Yes, it will charge over Link on USB 3. Much more slowly while playing, of course.
This is down to the way the 3d camera that recorded the video is setup, I think because of a discrepancy between the lens spacing and your eye spacing. It doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem today as it was a few years back, maybe it’s just an old video or filmed with cheap consumer equipment. ‘Professional’ cameras (as used in a certain industry) tend to be much better.
Not that I know of. There was some cheap Chinese thing that HTC was distributing around the time of Quest 1, it didn’t look great… HTC Cosmos was also supposed to have some mobile mode, don’t know what happened to that. Apple may still bring something to the table but I doubt it will be cheap.
If you have a USB-C port on your PC with USB PD (power delivery) it can/will charge at 18W. That should be enough to play and charge it. Otherwise you’ll probably be draining the battery slower, but still net negative on power.

Thanks again guys - much appriciated all the help such a total VR noob as me can get here!
Now - I had quite a few issues with Guardian space, which I use the sitting version, suddenly resetting mid-game and me having to redo it - Has anyone else had this issue?
Also - I think I am ready to try out the Virtual Desktop!
oh - No Mans sky was rather difficult to control, as was Skyrim. I think I need to try out the smooth movement system instead. I guess its also kinda like trying a gamepad for the first time - its somewhat difficult, but easier the more you try!
