Haha yeah the Alien is pretty freaky ‘irl’ huh
I Expect You to Die sequel incoming?
. . . my feelings too. Heck, the pre-release version of Alien Isolation that was custom made for VR and used in pre-retail Oculus demos was a big part of the reason I bought into VR. Gosh, I was shocked & dismayed to discover that the dedicated VR mode never made it out of demo. The modded version was pretty damn good though.
I tried the modded VR version of Alien: Isolation and was initially floored by how effing cool it was but then a control problem stalled my progress before I even saw the titular Alien. Something about not being able to crouch or jump with a gamepad? I wonder if that ever got fixed.

Ouch!
I was pretty close to that early on in the pandemic lock-down. I was playing a lot of Beat Saber for indoor exercise but had my usual space adjusted due to everyone being home and needing work/ school space. I managed to hit a support column with the my middle knuckle quite hard while reaching for a note. It was swollen and hurt for months. It was not bad enough that I thought I needed to go to the doctor (at the time such a visit seemed an unnecessary risk and darn silly considering what doctor’s were going through), but it did really hurt for a long time. I also felt really dumb. It was quite the first world injury/ problem.
There’s no jump. Crouch is click right thumbstick.
Yeah, that wasn’t working for me for whatever reason. My progress got thwarted by a pesky turnstile if memory serves.
Yeah, would be a problem rather early in the game.
Although, to be honest, most of my enjoyment so far has been treating the game as a walking simulator. CA did a remarkable job in recreating Alien’s ramshackle, 70’s high-tech world, and it’s a sheer pleasure simply strolling through it in VR.
I bought this game for VR, so hey free expansion!
VR is Elite Dangerous’ only feature that is feature-complete.
Pretty soon it won’t be, once Odyssey launches… :P

On the injury thing, I initially had my VR set up in my home office, with shelves full of collectibles, books, and other things that I knew to avoid but my teenager not so much.
So we took the unused office downstairs and declared it the Dreamatorium and moved the game computer down there. Only thing in the room is the PC and desk. :)
In more relevant news, the HP Reverb G2 is shipping!

Interesting - I’d really love to hear how people are finding the HP Reverb G2. It was what I initially wanted, but after getting the Oculus Quest 2, I am not sure I can get into something that is wired constantly. I can’t remember, does it require external setup as well? I mean, sensors around the room and such?
edit: Seems like no external sensor setup either.

Yeah, no external sensors, just a wire to your computer.
I want this 95% for sims and spaceflight games, so I’d never use Quest mode. I do play games like Beat Sabre for exercise, but that’s an ancillary use. And aren’t Quest-specific versions essentially Android games vs. PC games in sophistication/quality?

I am fairly new in this world, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but my experience, which consists of a few weeks with Quest 2, is that the native games made for Quest 2 are pretty good and pretty nice looking.
Sure - its not looking like modern PC gaming, but games like Saints and Sinners looks pretty good and plays rather well.
But yeah, I’ll be using my Quest wired as well, and now that I think about it, it works pretty well, and sitting down at least, I don’t really notice the wire.
… to their ‘channel partners’. Then I guess it ships to you from there after that.
Pre-orders will start being delivered in early/mid November and continue throughout November and December.
Fingers crossed for early November! (I am expecting December lol)

Well, I am totally okay with channel partners getting it and running it through the paces before it ships. If the production models have some issues, it gives me time to cancel. That said, I am pretty confident from the pre-production models that the G2 is well poised to dominate the VR scene.
I really hope to see some “through the lens” comparisons on the tech heavy channels for Star Wars Squadrons. That is my main focus for the G2. I am still on the fence on if I go all in for a cockpit big boy rig.

If and when you do, you owe it to yourself to try Elite Dangerous, one of the Il-2 battle of xxx series, DCS and by the time the g2 hits, ms flight sim 2020.
