Contractors coming to Quest
I got a 64GB, also had 64GB on the original Quest.
It connects to PC like a standard Android phone, so you can transfer things like pictures and movies easily this way. However, you can’t access any game installs.
You can access installs through Side Quest however, which you’ll need for wireless Virtual Desktop anyway. I have never tried backing up/restoring this way though…
But it doesn’t really matter unless you have really bad internet, as most Quest installs are under 2GB. Though these may increase with Quest 2, and there are some bigger outliers like 12GB for Saints and Sinners.
Welp, it doesn’t look like Quest 2 via even a 5GHz/gigabit ethernet isn’t the PC solution for me now. My computer just doesn’t have the ass for it - evidently, a 1st Gen Ryzen 7 & an AMD 5600 XT aren’t enough. HL Alyx was a forlorn, unplayable stuttery mess. SWS was almost playable. IL-2 BoX same deal - gorgeous, but a stuttershow.
It’s back to the CV1 for my sims at the moment. Looking forward to the day when I can bump up my GPU.
We’ll see what native games end up on the Quest 2 for now.
I have been successful playing Alyx on an old quad core Intel CPU and 5700XT. I did have some issues initially with stuttering. I recall rebooting and shutting other apps off to free up VRAM.
How is it with the link cable instead of wireless? Maybe you’re getting interference?
The issue I had doing this is most games don’t use Quest’s cloud save functionality. Losing progress when I uninstall is not pleasant. You can manually back up save data using SideQuest but it is cumbersome - at least last time I tried.
Your 5700 XT has roughly ~20% more butt than my 5600 XT. That extra 20% would make the difference, I’m thinking. As for interference, I’m getting the full 866 mbps that the Q2 can go with 5G. Kinda of a bummer, but I refunded Alyx for now and will just have to content myself with the lower fidelity of the CV1.
Happily, the Q2 handles my favorite sim, WOFF, just fine as a headtracker with no loss of image quality.
So I’m finally getting around to HL: Alyx (had to replace a broken Index controller).
Holy cow. What sort of sorcery is this? How are the textures so detailed and crisp in VR? Why is the frame rate so good at the highest detail level? I stood on the balcony in the opening scene for like 15 minutes, just marveling at the scenery.
I imagine it all feels more splendid because I have HL2 in my head. So I’m seeing all the new details in the combine soldiers, for example. Or the zombies (yuck).
It also does such a good job of immersing you in the environment. Having your hand interact with surfaces (instead of just ghosting through them) is a small touch but makes a big difference in putting you there. I was so “in” the environment that I physically recoiled and tensed up when the soldier smacks you in the gut with his shock stick early in the game (gotta’ be careful – that’s how Houdini died).
Anyway, I’m gushing a bit, but it’s pretty amazing.

Every now and then a VR game really surprises me in capitalizing on the medium. This is a true VR gem on the order of something like Tea for God or Compound. It’s a shmup from the perspective of the ship!

Yup - its a far cry from pretty much every other VR game I’ve tried on the Quest 2 so far - It looks REALLY good, and the animations are amazing. The soldier pointing his gun directly at your face in the beginning is rather intimidating.
Mmmm… TWD Saints & Sinners (native Quest 2) is proving pretty nifty so far.

I have that as well, and can’t wait to dig into it! There’s just still a bit much arm movement for me just yet, but a week or two, and I should be able to dive into it.
I have been using the Quest 2 every day in short bursts to get my head used to the perspective, since I suffer badly from nausea in quite a few games. It also works, and is getting way better, but I still get occasional small pangs of nausea and headache, telling me to stop.

Reverb G2s are starting to arrive… in Australia.
WTF…? I’ve not seen one yet. Maybe they shipped to the HP warehouse here but I don’t think to users yet.
I actually emailed them today, because I was checking and saw my orders page was empty - so I admit I panicked a bit… and apparently they moved to a new commerce system, and old orders didn’t carry over. I am assured I still have a G2 coming. :P
Anyway they told me they would be shipping to customers here from mid November through December. I ordered mine within a few hours of pre-orders opening so I’m hopeful of the earlier slot!
Supposedly HP were to start shipping to Europe on 2 November, but then the local resellers have to receive them and ship them out. Haven’t heard anything more since late October however.

There are a few people on Reddit and Facebook in the G2 groups that have received their headsets. All in Australia so far.

Haven’t heard jack shit from my retailer.
The UK reseller said it usually takes 10 days to reach them from the factory, at which point they expect to turn it around the next day. Double checking the email, they actually said the week of the 2nd, not the 2nd. So potentially another week or two before the first shipments should arrive, assuming they left on time.
One person in Europe who definitely has received it is MRTV, presumably not via the channels non-streamers will get it.
Pretty decent price for Walking Dead, but I have all the others that I’m interested in.
