They aren’t enforcing serve rules yet, but FYI, you’ll have to toss it up a lot higher and make sure the ball and paddle hit well behind the table for a legal serve. It makes hitting those low and fast serves a real challenge!

Speaking of casting and table tennis, there’s an annoying hitch every couple of seconds that makes the game unplayable when casting on the Quest 1. Does it do that for all games?

I mean, I could test this myself, but that would mean I’d have to stop playing table tennis.

That’s somewhat normal on a Quest 1, for games without much of a performance cushion. Both SideQuest and Virtual Desktop include a feature to boost CPU clocks when streaming to avoid it.

Try clearing your guardian history just in case though, that can cause hitching.

Good tip, my darn kids insist on making a new guardian every time because the ones I make don’t give them every inch of play space (by design, to avoid furniture).

Speaking of annoying kids, I ordered some microfiber cloths to deal with a few smudges they left on the lenses. Wish me luck, cross fingers, etc.

yeah, i guess the limited fov may influence. Although, I noticed it happens me less after playing the first two sets, they are the ‘warm up’.

This game is also glitchy as hell. Lots of crashing. Still worth it!

Uh. 0 crashes for me.

Did you ever play it on Quest 1? It’s pretty bad. Sometimes it’ll glitch out and won’t update the score on the table but still updates the score on the TV, hah.

So… how do I overclock this thing? I think casting might be the killer app we’ve been missing, but the hitching is a non-starter. Do I simply load SideQuest and enable a flag somewhere? I assume it can’t be that easy.

Yes, I played on the Quest 1. It was stable back then. Maybe things changed around. Try the beta (you have to ask in their discord) to see if it’s any better. Actually, you should send the logs to the dev of the crash.

For overclocking, yes it’s a one button thing. Connect Sidequest and click on the Wrench, then click on Level 4, I believe, in cpu/gpu level. The setting will be lost with the next reboot.

Well, tried XWA Upgrade 2.0 VR. Hard pass. The problem something with headtracking. When you move your head, there’s this nasty shakiness until your head is motionless again. I combed the XWA forums and implemented the suggestions there, but it didn’t go away. Until that’s fixed, the game isn’t playable for me at all, which is a bummer.

American Truck Simulator does have a VR mode, I found out (accessible under Betas) and I’m gonna try that :)

Is X-Wing Alliance still locked at 30 fps or did they find a way to fix that as well?

Unsure. It’s really smooth, but the headshaking makes it unplayable for me.

On a happier note, ATS is just the cat’s meow.

Having seen the price of Trover Saves the Universe, I saw it $12 cheaper on Steam VR. Although slow to load, if you have a pc capable, then there are better offers than what the Oculus store offered altogether on some titles.

Oh, totally. Steam is bigger, that means more competition and lower prices.

Headshaking?

Well, VR is a bust on my gaming laptop, I kind of knew it might be and was already making a Plan B for VR stuff. Sooo, thanks to @KevinC 's posting of his built system, I have a new one on the way for mid-December. The HP Reverb will have to wait until then. That being said … I will have ZERO issues with a system that can drive a VR headset.

I’m definitely feeling a bit “off” after long intense sessions of table tennis. Not quite dizzy but a little out of it. I notice it a lot more now when the Quest has a momentary hitch or when the headset wiggles on my head slightly.

Maybe it’s the low performanxe and refresh rate? I might need to buy a Quest 2 for myself now!

90 hz may help, in comparison with the 72hz.

You might be moving the headset (or the IPD slider) out of the sweet spot. The original strap on the Quest 1 drove me crazy doing this. The slider in particular seems to be loose.

Once you get SideQuest installed it’s very easy, and works well, but it destroys your battery. I used to play with a portable cell phone charger in my pocket hooked up.
