Got a wild hair and started playing Dirt Rally 2, thrustmaster wheel and pedals. Man, it’s hard! The force feedback seems extreme but I’ve done no tweaking, anyone else play? Recommendations for a casual?

Yes, Connection is the direct purchase option if you reserved via HP. I had my purchase through them in August and it arrive mid last week.

Cool thanks!
@Houngan when you say it seems extreme. Do you mean the wheel is wearing you out? 15 years ago I had a force feedback wheel and also found it exhausting in that it took some of the fun away from playing having to constantly fight against the wheel. I found it more fun/relaxing to turn it almost all the way down or off.
Damn, just got the shipping confirmation from the retailer. It’s t-shirts.
Some Googling usually turns up good settings for each brand of wheel. It shouldn’t feel that extreme while driving. Maybe you’re hitting a lot of trees!
Have fun though. I’m stuck with a gamepad and it’s very unintuitive.

Gamepad is unintuitive for racing under VR?
Oh just in general since I’m used to a wheel. I forgot what thread we were in.
This solves my dilemma about buying Pistol Whip a second time when I have access to the gift copy I sent to someone down my street. I’ll just buy the sequel!

Pretty much. I have the strength to fight the thing but it’s taking realism a bit too far, I think feedback can be accomplished with several pounds less of effort.

For all of those waiting on the G2, I don’t mean to rub it in, but to aid the excitement of those with shipping notices. I love this thing! It has some quirks for sure. I still can’t figure out how to wake it up from sleep other than rebooting or power cycling it it. Setting up controls in games is some sort of voodoo. Some games are fine. Some games take huge amounts of effort. Some games involve cycling a million binding options including going right back to where you started only to have it magically work after you put in enough frustration hours to the frustration gods. The tracking is not even a thing really (do make sure you have good batteries).
But once it is all set up… boom. The thing is sexy awesome! I am having a blast playing old favorites and discovering new ones. Did you know Payday 2 (the flatscreen game) plays in VR for free? How cool is that?!? I am rekindling my love for Payday 2. And that is a huge amount of content for a VR game.
Besides Squadrons, which is AMAZING with the G2, I think VR Dungeon Knight is my favorite right now. At $10 bucks during the last sale it was a super steel. It is a rogue lite (progression) dungeon crawler with seeded procedural dungeons. It isn’t all hack and slash either. There are puzzles and traps. It is like being a kid again with my friends making D&D maps on graph paper to challenge each other-- but in super clear VR.
I heart my G2.
How to close is it to Barony? Now THAT’S a roguelike I’d like to see in VR.

Oh I love this game too. To be clear it’s a COOP dungeon crawl which is why it’s so good. The bad news is the solo developer had something happen to him and is unable to work on the game so development is paused until further notice. But even in its current state it’s very playable and well worth the price IMO. Karnage Chronicles is similar and more polished, but it’s a lot less of an RPG than VR Dungeon Knight.

Yeah, my only initial gripe was the controller bindings.
However, now that people have had the G2 for a few weeks, I’m finding community controller binding for most games, which is WAY easier than manual setup. For instance, Boneworks didn’t work out of the box, and there was something quirky about the developer’s controller bindings, but one binding was from a guy with like 200+ hours in the game so I figured he knew his stuff and sure enough, my son got in the game and has about four hours in over the past few days, zero issues.
So, first thing I do if the controller doesn’t work out of the box is pop up the steamvr menu, go to controller settings, and look for a custom profile either from the devs or a user with a lot of time in the game. It’s still a minor annoyance, but you only have to do it once per game.
@Chaplin, I remember you mentioned you had color palette issues with Squadrons when you first tried it. What was the problem there? Sounds like you resolved it. (Edit: Just re-read your journey from VR wannabe to G2 aficionado and saw it was HDR causing the issue. Glad you got it resolved!)
Also, the kid has 8-10 hours into controller games already (I have about 2, as I’m mostly HOTAS) and he reports they work just as well as the Rift S controllers did tracking-wise, for him at least.

Yeah, it was the HDR setting in video settings that was a pain to hunt down. Now Squadrons looks and sounds soooo good. I am back and forth on if I need can justify a Virpil throttle and stick combo. I still intend to give War Thunder a peak and that might push me over the edge.
@scharmers I am not familiar with Barony. Maybe rogue like was a bit loaded since everyone has their own translation of that. I just really dig the exploration element of VR Dungeon Knight as the map is randomly jigsawed together each run in a way that has combat, traps, and puzzles. Besides schoolyard D&D maps with little secret door marks on graph paper, VR DK reminds me of my Wolfenstein, the old Apple version, joys as it rebuilt the map each game.
I got Karnage Chronicles too during the sale. It is really polished and I enjoy it also. So far it feels linear with less progression. I feel like KC will be an awesome ride, but just one ride. VR DK has me enthralled with the discovery of hidden rooms, climbing over acid pits, freaked out by damage resistant ghosts, and stabbing goblins to then die and never see the same dungeon again. Heck, I even get a kick out of keeping gear on my belt and back like the glowing health potion that I mimick drinking. I just like that the dungeons are memorable rather than blandly procedural. I don’t know, VR DK is my big find so far.
My buddy is getting a Quest 2 this weekend and I am super excited to co-op dungeons, fly some TIEs, and go VR retro with co-op tanks in Battlezone. Super hyped!

Oh, From Other Suns also got my attention on the Oculus store. That looks really cool, but it was not on sale and I am unsure if I can play it multiplayer via Revive and my G2 with my friend who is getting the Quest 2. Or anyone at all really. I am just unclear on what I lose by having to use Revive. The game looks like a super cool VR take on FTL in a co-op FPS. I hope there is a way to play it online with the G2.
Quest 2 arrived! It might have to wait a bit as I’m deep in Danish England.

I’m getting so frustrated! Apparently checking your e-mail 25x times a day doesn’t speed up a shipping notice being sent to you.
