YEEESSSSSSSSSS! It’s shipped!

Will I need to buy anything special for it?

Did you get an email or have you been compulsively checking the tracking link?

Consider buying a PCI USB 3.0 card or powered USB hub if you have one of the affected motherboard types (X570)

The new Tales from Soda Island episode is great. Well, Lifetime Achievement was also very good. Quill is on fire.

Mine has shipped. Should be here Tuesday. Which is also when MSFS releases it’s VR update. SO EXCITING!

Mine is on its way as well, might even be delivered today!

Oh, I got Oculus Move yesterday night. Finally, I had even forgotten about it.

I selected the 150 calories goal, and I did it in 34 minutes, 17 minutes playing Eleven TT and 17 minutes playing Beat Saber (with BS being twice as intensive as Eleven of course). The UI is nice, and the stats are pretty complete.

Anyone play Skyrim VR on the Quest 2? It seems like it would be really cool to be immersed in the world of Skyrim. Does it look nearly as good as it does on the PC?

I got an e-mail.

Once again I waited too long to decide and Amazon is out of the Quest 2. Not sure if I would have pulled the trigger anyway. I do wonder if Skyrim VR is as cool as it sounds. It seems like a game that may make someone feel sick.

Yes. It needs a crapton of mods to make it worthwhile (just like regular Skyrim) but it makes your 800th playthrough of the game quite something.

Like most Link experiences, clarity is somewhat impacted but again with the appropriate Q2 tweaks and Steam VR tweaks it is again very acceptable.

As far as getting sick; you’ll need moderate VR legs. Not nearly as bad as firing up Overload but not a neophyte experience.

I got my shipping confirmation e-mail this morning as well. It started off in Ohio and is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday.

The VR games I have that I’m eager to try…

DiRT Rally 2.0
No Man’s Sky
Subnautica
Star Wars: Squadrons
American Truck Simulator
Alien: Isolation
The Talos Principle

I can’t wait to play ATS/ETS2 in VR and of course MSFS as those games have been taking up the majority of my gaming time even without VR. I wish I could play Mudrunner in VR. I bought IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad (and some of the DLC, although I can’t remember which) and Star Wars Squadrons. I also picked up Half Life: Alyx and DCS World Steam Edition, and apparently something called In Death, although I have no recollection of what that is.

If you need help with il2 or dcs, you know where to find me.

Is it something your body gets used to? I played Beat Saber for maybe 10 minutes and felt fine when I was at a VR demo. If I played games like Beat Saber would my body become more tolerant of something like Skyrim VR ?

Oooo, that would be fun! A VR setup with my wheel would be cool.

Those of you getting new headsets, IL-2 is an awesome balance between a great VR experience and not being overwhelming with systems details like DCS is. (Performs better in VR, as well.) Highly recommended. Battle of Bodenplatte is probably the one to start with if you like American planes – Deluxe edition has an awesome P-38 Lightning.

Also, some good pre-reads here on setting up your G2: https://reverb.danol.cz/setting-up-g2/

Thanks! I do need a good flight sim or two because I think I’m more interested in sit-down, cockpit style VR than motion control, wander aimlessly around my room stepping on my cat’s tail VR.

@robc04, that and American Truck Simulator are actually the two I’m most excited about. I think next year I may have to splurge and get a good wheel setup. Right now I’m eyeing either the Logitech G29 + shifter, or if I can find the will to spend the money, a Thrustmaster T300 / TH8A setup. Right now I have a Logitech MOMO Force in my closet that I haven’t set up in at least a decade.

And a HOTAS for my flight sim would be nice too. Right now I have an ancient Saitek Cyborg 3D Force stick.

It is as cool as it sounds, re-experiencing that world from within. When you fight that first big Ice Spider in the tutorial, I hope you don’t have arachnophobia…

At the end of the day it’s still the same good ol Skyrim we’ve already played for hundreds of hours though, after a while I got bored and put it down.

It has some comfort options like teleport movement and snap turn and what not, so you can use those if it makes you sick. The free locomotion is probably not ideal for beginners (but def the best way to play).

I think you do develop tolerance and get your ‘VR legs’ over time. I can’t say definitively but I’d think putting hours into Beat Saber would contribute to that, yes.

Rogue-like archery game with a Souls-ish atmosphere - it’s awesome!

I’d call out War Thunder before I’d call out IL-2 BoX sims, though.

IL-2 is demanding on both player and PC. I’d recommend getting very familiar with IL-2 via “pancake mode” before diving into IL-2 VR. I mean, it’s hard enough having to deal with toe brakes and shit on monitor, much less in VR when you can’t see the keyboard.

War Thunder’s repertoire of keypress and controls will fit on a decent HOTAS, and there’s far less switchology. It also looks & plays nicely, and is free (OK, it’s pay to win, but you’ll probably eject the game and move on to stuff like IL-2 once you get tired of the free stuff).

Keep it to fifteen minutes the first trip in, much like car sickness or sea sickness, you have to stop at the very first sign of anything amiss. If you wait until discomfort, then you’re probably in trouble.

There’s also a period of the real world feeling disassociated for a day. All normal, and all gets better with time. If you want to test it, there’s a free sim called Aircar that’s a vomit comet.
