I’ll look into that, thanks.
I’d only had 6 cars on the grid, and tried putting the settings to the lowest and that didn’t solve the problem. But I rebooted, and for whatever reason it’s perfectly smooth now.

Has anyone tried the Quest port of Myst? I’m curious about whether it holds up as a modern VR experience, or is it more of a nostalgia piece like playing original Doom in VR.

I haven’t played the Quest version, but I did play the Masterpiece edition a couple of years ago with the hi resolution art and full movement. The game itself held up, but the puzzles have become easy, not because they’re different, but because they’re now archetypes. I did end up turning off full movement and playing the original way with the slide-show type movement, simply because that was more efficient. I imagine it’ll play fine in VR, but it will almost certainly be a nostalgia piece too.
The Quest version is great, though you might need an assistant to help take notes. The graphics are so-so (it’s a Quest game), though apparently there is a PC version coming out later with much improved visuals. Thankfully the wonderful sound and music is as immersive as ever, and the VR controls are implemented in probably the best way possible. If you played the original Myst, expect plenty of nostalgia goosebumps. The VR definitely enhances the game (maybe even elevates it), and probably the best way to play it currently.

I finally got my USB-C adapter, and my headset is still dead. This is really upsetting and frustrating. Is there something I’m missing? A power switch somewhere? I have it plugged into my video card and USB port. I have it plugged into the headset. It’s not turning on nor being detected my the windows mixed reality program. There is a little light in the break-out box where the video card and USB cable come together and I do have it plugged in from there.
Yea!!! I found out I didn’t have the cable plugged in deep enough LOL. It’s running now and both USB ports work :)
Hey, do you all use speech recognition on with the headset?

Sorry I’m going to bug you guys a lot. I’m having trouble getting it to not be blurry even after I got the IPD set. It’s like I need to have the headset be lower and tighter. I have a pretty small head so maybe there’s a way to make it stick to your face better?
Also I can’t seem to buy anything from the Microsoft Store when I’m in VR. Am I supposed to pull the trigger or hit the A button? I tried everything and nothing worked.

This is my second VR headset and my first one wasn’t really (but a little) PC compatible. Every set has a sweet spot. You learn to do that the first thing when putting it on and every so often even in play or viewing, or whatever. That sweet spot is for straight ahead dead accurate and precise focus. Everything else is NOT. You move your head for that. It isn’t intuitive, as we typically move our eyes. You will not and are not supposed to be able to put the headset on in one point but be able to focus on everything by moving your eyes around while wearing the headset.
I’m mentioning this because it’s the biggest gripe of folks for VR but the easiest, learnable, solution.
If it’s blurry on your G2, move your headset up/down or closer (crank down the top velcro a bit.) It might be uncomfortable once you find that spot, that’s when you play with the headset padding to try to fix that a bit. IPD is your eye distance between each other, like viewing binoculars that are too far apart or too close together. It is NOT focus.
Did you take the protective plastic off the lenses? ;)

The blue things? haha yes :)
How do I get a Youtube thing up in my main home room?
:)
Yeah then like @Skipper says it’s about adjusting the fit. Loosen everything and position the headset so it’s clear, then tighten everything back up. The back of the strap should generally be as low as possible, cradling the bump at the back of your head.

Is there a VR game that does somewhat realistic sword-fighting?
Also, I can make nice 3D thingies for each game I got from the MS Store in the MS Cliff House. Is there a way I can do that for Steam games as well?
Last, it appears my right stick A button isn’t working when in Steam VR. Any idea why this might be? Was I supposed to install “SteamVR” as well as the Steam WMR thing? Or just Steam WMR?
OK last for real - wasn’t there a “floating in space game” for VR where you were on a space station trying to fix it?
Sword & Sorcery has the best sword combat, however it’s in EA and it progresses slowly.

Awesome thanks! And how about a casting magic type of game?
Funnily enough Sword & Sorcery, as the name indicates, also has some magicks. Although dunno if it’s good in that area. I think that part is still more in development.
Bring up the app menu in the house then choose all programs and your steam games should be there.
May need to have chosen to add a shortcut when you installed them in steam but I think that’s the default.
Does anyone use OVR Toolkit? I am still looking for a solution that will let me look at a webpage/flight charts while in cockpit of MSFS. Also maybe use itunes while in the cab of ATS/ETS2. It is neither well-documented nor user friendly, but I may be able to figure it out. One of the biggest overall problems I’m having is that one of my motion controllers doesn’t work, so a lot of the out of the box stuff, doesn’t work for me. There is a “simulator mode” that uses keyboard input, but it doesn’t seem to be preferred.
My overall impressions at this point are underwhelming. If it wasn’t for MSFS, I’d probably be sending it back.
I can’t get Dirt Rally 2.0 to run at all in VR. I’ve had limited success with Assetto Corsa. I can’t get Steam VR to work with a controller (despite it appearing to be supported).
I did try out Aircar and while it’s a cool demo, unless I’m missing something, it doesn’t have more than 5 or 10 minutes of gameplay. I also played the first couple of missions in Star Wars Squadrons, and thought it was very cool. I need to get back to that.
I have, after much experimenting and research, got decent performance in MSFS and ATS/ETS2. The only real “game changer” for me is MSFS. That is simply astounding. The increase in awareness makes flying so much more immersive. I’m going to try IL-2 today.
I’m also regretting getting a 2070 Super. I’d like a beefier card, but I don’t know if I want to drop the dough.

Aircar is just a demo. It’s just notable for being very nausea-inducing because of the freedom of movement.

My SteamVR house is incredibly laggy and stutters about 90% if the time. Anyone know how I can fix that? MS cliff house is just fine.

First, yes, I had to install both WMR and Steam VR. In order to do anything on most of my games I have to go to the WMR house first, then click the Steam VR app. Once in the Steam VR room, I can access PC VR games (both Steam VR ones and Oculus Rift ones via Revive).
Second, control bindings are my biggest frustration with the G2 currently. Games just don’t seem to know what to do with the new motion controller. It tends to take me 0 to 2 hours to get each game to work right when I first try it. It is a learning process of:
- What controls does the game have/ need?
- What controls does the G2 motion controller currently have mapped and where?
- What controls do I need to map or adjust to satisfy step 1
The first part is hard for a game that is new to me. The main issue seem to stem from games not knowing what to do with the missing touch pad as they look for swiping commands. Usually Y and B are mapped to mimic a trackpad, so start fiddling there. Often I find A and X are not mapped to anything at all. Setting up joystick movement for smooth movement in some games is a serious headache when the game thinks there is a touch/ trackpad.
Heads up that changing bindings in Steam VR locks up sometimes. Thus be looking for if it is stuck trying to save or something. Meaning, you can still change bindings, but they won’t change anything until Steam VR is reset.
@Skipper has some good advice. Don’t fret too much about the IPD. It does very little in my experience. I called my optometrist to get my IPD and set headsets up based on that; it is still blurry usually when I put the headset on initially. The real work is in the micro adjustments once you have the headset on. This is a two part thing. First getting the straps and such set so you are close to dead on by just putting the headset on. Then each time after that barely scoot the visor on your face to refind the sweet spot.
Things are always blurry outside of your vision. Just aim for natural straight ahead to be clear then move your face to move the clear “sweet spot” around. On current tech, edge to edge clarity is not a thing so you can’t freely move your eyes and expect focus. You should still be able to move your eyes around the sweet spot, just not all over the visor interior.
