All headset have fixed focus,sorry.

Actually the Samsung Gear 2 had adjustable focus, just like a pair of binoculars, so you could dial it in and NOT WEAR YOUR GLASSES.

I have no idea why no other headset ever had this feature but presumably there’s a technical reason? Because it sounds awesome!

Apparently you can get prescription lens inserts for the Quest 2. I need to read a bit more about them.

Top menu item, “quick mission builder” select the map and weather you want. Select a machine you want to drive. Select target types. Have at it.

This a screenshot of part of my Key Mapping screen:

I see I have bound the pinkie button of my joystick to two functions at one. What it ends up doing is zero’ing the VR position. So I get in my pit, put on the headset, slouch down a bit, press the button and go. I prefer to zero it in a slightly lower position than straight upright, as sitting straight then allows me to see more over the nose, while I can still easily line up with the sight if needed.

Penny what racing Sims are you playing? I picked up Dirt Rally 2.0 and Asset to Corso but I’ve been unable to figure out how to get either to work in VR. Admittedly I haven’t spent a lot of time trying, but I can’t even get DR2 to start up. AC will start up but I can’t center the camera.

It’s probably more like 2m, so a bit over 6ft. See how you go before ordering prescription inserts. I think you give them your whole prescription and they work it out for you.

Obviously some kind of USB cable for Oculus Link. And the Elite Strap is a worthwhile addition. The official carry case makes stuff easier to store. Rechargeable batteries for the controllers.

The more modern HMDs have this kind of function built into the shape of lens itself (so-called fresnel hybrid lens). Rather than dialling the lens, the lens is a variable thickness along the vertical so you just move the headset up/down a bit on your face to find the right focus.

Technology progresses - places like Facebook have shown off prototype ‘electronic folded optic varifocal lenses’, that will give us multiple focal distances that more closely simulate reality.

And maybe that’s perfectly fine, pretty habitual for me to want to turn anything with a battery completely off, but maybe their sleep mode is very well implemented. Having said that, I also have a Rift2 and the controllers INHALE batteries when not in use, so I’m probably going to keep powering down.

That is EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks!

I haven’t tried Link (I’ve been more than happy with the few Quest games I’ve gotten and don’t want to be tethered), but big thumbs up for the elite strap. Night and day in the fit with the new strap.

I’m averaging close to 90 with “high” settings and 30% resolution. If I do 50% resolution I stay locked at 45 for the most part. If I want to use 100% resolution then yeah the settings basically needed to be as low as possible, and even then I’m not getting 90.

Project CARS (the first one), Assetto Corsa, and DiRT Rally 2.0. The latter has been pretty much smooth sailing, so I’m not sure why it’s not starting up for you. Project CARS has been a bit of a bear, but eventually I got it working pretty well. To center your camera in Assetto Corsa just press Ctrl + Space.

If any of y’all need any help figuring out how to deal with Il-2 and not suck at it, the combat flight sim thread is that-a-way.

This is a fine place to get guidance. I would like to turn your attention to the Chuck’s Guides. They are excellent. They also have a very nice forum where we’ll be glad to have you.

I watched Feather, a nice 3d short which I had from Viveport Infinity.

Some others I liked it:

Gloomy Eyes
Bonfire
Aripi
1st /2nd step
We are Stars
Mind Vr
The Girl and the Crane (although this one is hilariously unoptmized)
The Scream
The Line
The Blu
Eleven Eleven

And some from Oculus:
Allumete
Colosse
Henry
Invasion!
The Bond
The Raven
Wolves in the Wall
And of course the several shorts found in the Quill Theater.

The Quest controllers are waaay better at not using batteries when asleep than the Rifts! Night and day.

Yup. I haven’t changed batteries, yet, on my Quest2 after probably at least 20+ hours of use over the course of nearly a month.

I have a question on comparing the Quest2 vs. HP Reverb G2. Does the Reverb still have better image quality running things at 50% vs. the Quest2 at 100%?

It’s tough to say. The Quest 2 would have a sharper image, but would be compromised by its compressed streaming video and more prominent screen door effect. I think the colours may be nicer on G2 as well.

You may also struggle to run Quest 2 at 100%, same as you would with G2… :)

edit: yeah G2 looks nicer to me. I tried each in No Man’s Sky, where I have it set up for G2 at 50%.

It looks better than Quest 2 does at 100% for the reasons above, especially the colours. Plus the performance drops so I’d have to lower Quest 2 from 100% anyway.

Check comparisons of both at 100%, to have an idea of the softness produced in the Quest 2. Then somehow imagine the G2 image at 50% ??

Of course take it with a pinch of salt, through the lens camera videos aren’t the same as in person.

This guy is the one with more serious evidence-based & hard measurements data, but he is French. Still, check it with subs

Here he shows up to what distance he can check some details (words in an optometrist-like test). You can see with Link or VD some detail is lost in comparison with native, but it’s a small amount, and still way higher than Rift S or Index.

Is there a way to somehow use my headset like Track IR? I never could get that to work well with ArmA2 and Arma 3, or Falcon 4, but the head tracking on the Reverb is amazing. If I could use head-tracking, but my normal flat-screen for those games it would be awesome. I’m guessing if I viewed the game flat-wise inside my visor I’d have to turn the graphics way down.

Decided to do some more testing in Star Wars Sqaudrons and found when I connected my gamepad the control was far snappier than with my joystick and I also had much better fine-tuned aim. But a joystick is a way better way to play. Not sure what to do.

Yep. This was written as a way to do it in MSFS before VR came out, but it still applies for other games that support Track IR: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/how-to-use-opentrack-and-steamvr-to-use-your-vr-headset-as-a-headtracking-device-and-screen/123263

But you have to view the game in the goggles using a Virtual Desktop app; no way to use head-tracking with the monitor itself because… you can’t see it with the goggles on!

You can just use a phone app to do head tracking if you don’t want to have the headset on.
