Have you tried turning it off and on again? :)

Like hold the power button down until the ‘power off’ prompt comes up.

First thing I tried. No difference.

When I was playing a lot of Elite, I used the Brian Blessed voice pack. It was a lot of fun, and I suppose somewhat helpful, though I wouldn’t rely on it for combat functions.

I don’t understand what the voice packs do. Is it a text-to-speech thing? I’ve been using the free language packs you can download from Microsoft.

And yes, I use the microphone in the VR helmet. Voiceattack is very good about connecting you with the windows apps that allow you to set up the microphone and train the voice recognition. As I said, it continues to get better the more I use it. There is a free demo if you want to try it out. It allows one profile with 20 commands, which is more than enough to decide if you like it. I haven’t tried it with E:D yet, but that’s only because I haven’t played much E:D yet. I’m sure that if I get into it, I will set up an E:D profile.

In E:D at least, they combine with Voice Attack to control the game and give you context sensitive audio feedback to voice commands and game states. It’s a bit like having a ship’s computer, but voiced by Kirk or Dr Who, basically. HCS have a bunch of sci-fi related actors, as well as some “generic” ones.

I’ve been using this voice packs with voice attack for years. I love them. I can fly with my 360 controller and all other functionality is voice activated. Add in VR and it’s amazing.

Well my Oculus Quest 2 arrives next week. Can’t wait!

Walk in place. It changes everything.

Ah well it was worth a shot! :)

What makes you so sure? Quests seem pretty forgiving with light levels, I play in a fairly dim room and I’ve seen the videos of people playing outdoors!

Maybe you could go nuclear and try a factory reset.

Try Lone Echo or Echo VR, the weightlessness and grabbing makes perfect sense to the brain, and it gets you used to moving without walking.

Hmm. Seems the $50 for the Elite Strap is worth it.

Also: sadly discovered today that the Beat Saber custom songs doesn’t work like, say, Audiosurf. And the community creating the song maps is… well.

I’ve actually grown accustomed to the standard Quest 2 straps. It’s no longer uncomfortable as long as I’m not connected to the PC with a cable. If I play a game tethered to the PC and am standing / moving, then it pulls and gets uncomfortable. So having VR Desktop, as long as it continues to work well for games makes the standard strap a non-issue for me.

Bright sunlight will definitely screw it up, particularly if it’s coming through blinds. It works best with a room well-lit by lamps/ bulbs, etc. Weird shadows with sharp edges throw it off too.

I’m trying to be optimistic! I ordered this thing from the US Amazon store (none in Australia) so would rather avoid the horror and two months wait for a replacement. So I’m hoping it’s something I can fix.

I also think it started with the latest update, where hand tracking was added. Maybe a factory reset would be a smart move.

This is my hope. It was bright (and coming through open louvered glass), and my room certainly has sharp edges, open “box-like” wall storage which would create lots of weird reflections. Anyway, I’ll keep trying. It didn’t stop me from having a great time last night.

Lighting makes an absolutely massive difference with hand (not controllers, which work okay in lower light) tracking. A bunch of nice overhead and side lights and it’s like magic. But it has to be quite a bit brighter that you would probably normally have a room. It still ‘works’ in regular light it’s just a lot less responsive.

You should probably try using it in a different room/space to troubleshoot.

I know, there are a bunch of obvious things I can try out before doing anything rash, just a busy week and our house is currently upside down as we’re doing a major spring clean.

Any Quest 2 people willing to be friends with me on it? I could use some people on leaderboards for Beat Saber and maybe some other games. I stalled out on the Beat Saber campaign on level 14, so I’ll probably be playing more solo songs.
