I tried today A Wake Inn and man, it’s janky as fuck. It has three movement schemes, but the three are janky:
-using the wheelchair wheels, but the physics movement isn’t good enough, doing sometimes movements almost on its own, and the chair itself climb up obstacles in weird ways.
-teleport, which is worthless because it’s super short range and I couldn’t see how to change the orientation.
-joystick, but despite having to real, physical joystick in my hands, the option is really to use a virtual joystick on a side of the chair.

Normal object interaction are also somewhat janky. The typical stuff, you open a drawer and have problems closing it in despite doing the same movement. Or you drop an object and it mysterious appears 1.5 mts behind me. You have a ‘grabber’ stick to grab things a bit further away, but it’s more janky than the usual telekinesis/HL alyx gloves than other games use.

It seems their first VR game, but look at The Room VR, it was also their first one it was much better executed.
Graphics are pretty good, at least. I wonder if the story will go somewhere decent or it’s just an excuse to make a puzzle/escape room game.

So today I tried:

  • Elite and Squadrons - Impressive visually, but so dull gamewise. Uninstalled.
  • Vader Immortal - Holy shit that’s fun, and I’ve only done the dojo.
  • Eleven Table Tennis - Took me forever to learn how to serve, but the AI is fun.
  • The Thrill of the Fight - I think I found my new exercise routine. Holy shit that’s good.

A Walking Dead game? Yeah nothankyew.

I haven’t tried it but maybe you can jump into Evochron Legacy SE for a space sim VR fix. I also enjoyed X Rebirth VR, though I suspect many wouldn’t. :)

And yeah, Thrill of the Fight is so good you start to shop around for sweat bands and silicon protectors! :D

I got it working in VR but I’ll have to tweak the controls first because it didn’t recognize the touch controls or anything else at all.

That game is on my wishlist, but I’ve already ordered a silicone protector and I’m going to grab a sweat band this afternoon. Also ordered some AMVR controller grips, because the flimsy wrist lanyard is definitely not cutting it when it comes to extended Beat Saber and Pistol Whip sessions. My palms sweat a lot when I exercise, those things slip out of my grip all the time. Also, throwing a bottle at a goon in Superhot VR very nearly caused me to chuck the entire controller across the room, so having a strap will prevent me from breaking a window.

I already ordered a silicone protector thingy.

Episode 3’s Dojo has a bunch of force powers added in, which makes it even more fun - and challenging.

Wait episode 3? I’m just going through the levels.

The Quest version is divided into 3 episodes. Not sure about the PC.

Remember Everspace :)

Oh not sure which episode I’m on, I’ll have to look.

Oh right, thanks!

And Overload as a VR-legs benchmarking tool

Brian, how is clarity for you on it? Screen door effect? Barrel distortion? Performance?

Better, on par, or a bit worse than you expected?

Once I put on some glasses it’s pretty clear. It’s an older prescription, but my current glasses are too wide for the thing. Since these glasses work I’ll make due with them. So far things are very clear and easy to read. Not sure what you mean with screen door effect or barrel distortion.

So far the only downside is that, even using the Wifi hotspot on my PC itself, performance over Virtual Desktop is spotty. Same with the Wifi extender and a direct (though weak) connection to the router. Looks like when I wanna use my PC, corded will be the way to go for the forseeable future, which is fine as I did buy the cord for that reason. I just don’t like how finicky the port is, so I got a smaller USB-C elbow cable to sit in the port all the time while I plug the link cable into THAT small cable. That should reduce wear on the port.

I also got a silicone thing for the face covering, which is VERY nice. Now I can box more without worrying about getting it sweaty.

So far I’m impressed! Thank you for asking!

Screen door effect is when you can see the individual pixels with some shading around it. It limits the brightness and can be a distraction. Barrel distortion is the effect the fresnel lenses have. It’s the rings that start around the mid-center and go outward.

Huh, I’ve yet to see either of those things.

It’s pretty minimal on the Quest 2. To be fair, I didn’t mind it too much even on the OG Rift (the god rays were much more noticeable), so I’m not the best judge, but it’s just not something I even think about with the Q2.

Well that’s good to know. So far I’ve been pretty happy with this thing and its mix of standalone and PC functionality.

I mean, you already know, you have it. You’d be complaining about it if it was an issue.
